Can anyone help me please look for reference for a death for a Colin Coulstock born in 1949 and passed same year. MMN Herbert. Thank you

I can't find a death at all on either Findmypast or the GRO site. His birth gives a middle initial - Colin A. Coulstock. Are you certain he died?

Yes im sure but strange as i found a marriage for a Colin A Coulstock, Few of my relatives said he passed away same year born.

Could it be possible that the relatives were wrong? Could he have been adopted (either formally or informally)?

The marriage for Colin A, Coulstock was in 1963 so "your" Colin would be too young at the time.

There are 2 family trees for Coulstock on ancestry, both have his death in 1949, and suggested Bishop's Stortford, but death certificate not found.


I wonder if he died very soon after birth and everyone forgot to register his death?????

It looks as though that grave was found in Bishop's Stortford, which may mean seeing if you can find the parish Register and searching it for his burial.

It may help to find when he was buried

Wonder if his birth was reg but in fact he was stillborn so the reg would be on the
Stillbirth register

I am sure you need a death cert in order to arrange a funeral .

I am the one who added on Find a grave and done so as that is what i was told but a mystery, i think i will order the birth certificate to see what says maybe as dont know if will say on that if stillborn.

The birth cert won't say if he was stillborn

That info would be on the stillbirth registers which is closed and only accessed by the parents

If your dad is still alive then as a sibling to Colin he would be able to access the stillbirth record (if Colin was indeed stillborn) although it's unusual for a birth to be registered on the open register if it was a stillbirth.

If you order the birth certificate it might then be an idea to contact the register office nearest to the address on the certificate just in case the death WAS registered but for some reason was accidentally left off the copy list sent to the GRO.

Colin's birth was in the East Stonehouse RD, Devon. I wonder if the Father was in the Forces - there would have been Navy, Army, Royal Marines in the area. If so, possibly the family went abroad and the child died overseas??

Where are you finding that, GG?

It doesn't come up on Ancestry or FreeBMD.

2 births to the Atkin/Herbert marriage 1941/2 and several Coulstock/Herbert births 1943-1952 in various parts of the country (not seeing another Coulstock/Herbert marriage)

the Bishops Stortford one is the only one on FreeBMD

the FMP devon one is an error in transcription as the back up is def Bishops Stortford

have done a correction
