East Stonehouse didn't exist as a reg district after 1937.

After that it was part of Plymouth reg district.

Also, Plymouth births in 1949 are all Vol 7a.

It's on FMP - which doesn't show the Bishop's Stortford one.

HOWEVER - if you go through to check the original it shows there as B. Stortford with no East Stonehouse anywhere near - I'll report it !! Go back to free bmd and East Stonehouse didn't even exist as an RD in 1949, it had been absorbed by Plymouth in 1937.

As GreyGhost (and others) have said, Darealjolo, East Stonehouse is a mistake, and GG is reporting it to FindMyPast, the only website which says East Stonehouse.
Bishops Stortford is correct.

It may not be relevant but just in case you've not noticed it, Colin was born the qtr before parents married, I've looked for a death for Colin in mothers maiden name also just in case but nothing showing on freebmd.

Is it possible that Colin was adopted, but everyone was told he had died?

If he was adopted, because his parents were unmarried, his birth certificate should have that information added in the far right hand column.
