Eringobragh1916 Report 22 Nov 2015 09:10

Kathryn..I understood there was a 100yr.closure rule on the records but if you have managed to get details from them did you check the "outdoor relief" ones also for after Agnes left...I am wondering did she just go in to have her second child in the Infirmary ?

Have checked through the 1901 Census and wonder about the one below...yes the age is out but its the nearest I could find to anything resembling an Agnes McNamee....The original is not to easy to decipher for the surname but its either McNamee or McNamara....I would go for the former.. see what you think on the original....

Further to my reply yesterday evening, can I just say that I applied to PRONI for the Workhouse Records. I was informed that a 100 year rule applies. I was later contacted by them to say that as there was only three years to go it was decided that they would search and if anything was found they would forward the same to me which is what happened. At least it gave me something else to go on as I hadn't come across a sister for Rachel, I only had her mother's name ie Agnes Snr.

Kind regards

Hi. I got them from PRONI. I am researching for my mother in law who was adopted. I have discovered that her mother was Rachel McNamee whose mother was Agnes McNamee and Rachel's sister was Agnes McNamee born circa 1915. Both Rachel and her sister were illegitimate. It has been quite a journey and many hours spent researching but I don't give up easily. Obviously at times I have to ask for help as is now.

Kind regards

Kathryn...Quite often it is a case of detective work and not relying on the "expected" .
How did you obtain her admission details ? The fact she stated she was from Clogher means nothing really as she would need say she was a resident of the area to gain admission its interesting that she didn't stay long ...only a matter of 6 weeks....
How are you "related" ?

Kathryn Report 21 Nov 2015 22:00

Sorry she was admitted in 1918 giving her age as 24, servant and being RC. Thank you for this information and your time spent in finding the same. I am keeping all this information in the hope that at some point the jigsaw will come together. I appreciate that this is a difficult quest. I even bought some credits for rootsIreland to try and search but it hasn't come to anything. As we know quite often ages etc are given correctly just to confuse us even more. I will keep searching as well and will update if I manage to find anything that might fit into the jigsaw. What I can't get my head around is why do we find a person in one census ie the 1911 and they don't appear in the 1901 census even though they are of an age to appear in the same. It's so frustrating. It's certainly not easy searching in Ireland.

Thank you all for your continued help.

Kind regards

Kathryn

Kathryn You don't put the year Agnes was admitted to the Workhouse but I assume its after 1911..the following is the nearest Agnes McNamee I can find who is about right age and occupation....I cannot locate her 1901 but her place of Birth is given as the County Leitrim..1901 Census isn't showing her there but the family could have moved..I don't find her in Dublin prior to 1911

It looks as if you have to have some credits to be able to view the results, even though no credits are used for this. Had a couple of credits left so looked at the Enhanced view for the birth and marriage and now it won't let me look at any search results without buying more credits. Will post the birth and marriage below

I am pretty sure St Anne's Cathedral is Protestant and not Catholic, so perhaps not your Agnes's parents.

Kathryn Report 21 Nov 2015 15:11

Unfortunately not. As before, I knew it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. I have just been looking at the censuses for David, Elizabeth and Agnes but there is nothing. There was another daughter born illegitimately in May 1918 in the Workhouse in Enniskillen, Rachel. I have managed to trace her, she ends up in England. Her birth was shown on the familysearch.org site but am totally stumped with both Agnesses.

Kathryn, do you know anything about the 2 Agnesses after they left the Workhouse?

Hi Potty, sorry to be a pain. Just went back onto that site and entered the name and year range and it is telling me to buy credits.

Searching is free, though. I would advise you not to go for the Enhanced Records, they give very little more info than in the search results whereas the Full brings up images of the original entries.

Yes, I just went onto that site and registered. As you say you have to buy credits so will do what I can. Thank you for your help.

It's the only one between 1891 & 1895 - you can only search in 5 year ranges on that site.

Kathryn

Kathryn Report 21 Nov 2015 14:29

Thank you Potty. Will check that one out. I take it that was the only Agnes McNamee born around that time?

A possible marriage for the parents of the above Agnes:

M/1893/B1/418/81/180 David McNamee Owens 6th October 1893 Belfast
M/1893/B1/418/81/180 Elizabeth Owens McNamee 6th October 1893 Belfast

You would have to buy credits to see the image of the original entries.
