I never did find out exactly where it was - maybe Sarah worked there?

Hello Janice, I missed your last message earlier and have just seen it about Bertha - I am so grateful for this information. My mum never even knew she had an Aunt Bertha, let alone children born around her age. Its very bemusing why she never visited my grandad. She will be so pleased with this info. Many thanks.

Thank you to MGNV as well, very useful info about the neighbours.

Hi Helen,

I didn't put the names of the children on here because they are probably still alive, but you can find them yourself on freeBMD.

I haven't pursued possible marriages/children for them but will do if you want.

Janice

PS Perhaps Bertha didn't like her name and used Irene instead?

Hello Janice,
Yes i've spoken to my mum and she thinks it must be Renee. Which is what everyone knew her as, Mum had no idea she was called Bertha and they lost touch, so no idea she had children around the same age as Mum. I will try and find the names, don't worry, you've helped me lots! Thank you.

I'm also certain i've got the right Albert that died in the war, as my Nan has said Grandad told her he died in WW1 and he was in the Royal Engineers which all ties in.
