Hello Janice,
Yes i've spoken to my mum and she thinks it must be Renee. Which is what everyone knew her as, Mum had no idea she was called Bertha and they lost touch, so no idea she had children around the same age as Mum. I will try and find the names, don't worry, you've helped me lots! Thank you.

I'm also certain i've got the right Albert that died in the war, as my Nan has said Grandad told her he died in WW1 and he was in the Royal Engineers which all ties in.

Hi Helen,

I didn't put the names of the children on here because they are probably still alive, but you can find them yourself on freeBMD.

I haven't pursued possible marriages/children for them but will do if you want.

Janice

PS Perhaps Bertha didn't like her name and used Irene instead?

Hello Janice, I missed your last message earlier and have just seen it about Bertha - I am so grateful for this information. My mum never even knew she had an Aunt Bertha, let alone children born around her age. Its very bemusing why she never visited my grandad. She will be so pleased with this info. Many thanks.

Thank you to MGNV as well, very useful info about the neighbours.

Expanding on Roses's 1911:

In the early 1960s, the deepest hole in the UK was a 2000' (don't recall exactly) deep artesian well for a laundry in Stonebridge Park.
I never did find out exactly where it was - maybe Sarah worked there?

Willesden RD didn't exist until 1909q4 - before that, it was Hendon.
NB it's only 600m walk from West Hampstead tube to Kilburn High Rd.

Mordaunt Rd is just NW of Harlesden tube station.
It used to run between (and parallel to) the train track & Harrow Rd.
After 200m, there's a slight kink in the road, just E of Shelley Rd.
There it turned into Carlyle, and ran all the way to the Stonebridge Rec Grounds.
Nowadays, Carlyle has been renamed to Mordaunt. Milton is the next street to the S, next to the railway.

Thanks so much for your time helping me. Yes the ones on the 1911 census are the right ones, Emily and Rose are my great aunts and I even remember Great Uncle Sid. I think Bertha died at birth along with Harold. My grandad is Harry R born in 1918. Its odd that there's a birth record for Albert in Jun 1882 in Hampstead and not Willesden. I am definately going to order that certificate and the death cert for 1939.
Thanks again.

Thank you so much for all your replies! I am going to look into the one that died in 1939, but I do know that the Albert that died in the war was born in Willesden, so I think it is him. My Nan seems to remember Grandad not knowing his Dad.

I have got Albert and Sarah's marriage certificate, they were married in August 1904 and his age then was 22 so it would put his birth in 1882.

I haven't got Alberts birth certificate, the address on the sons is 12 Lincoln Mews, Willesden Lane, Kilburn. The marriage certificate is 20 Albert Terrace, Milton Ave, Willesden.

I really appreciate your comments.
Thank you
Helen

This is the only Albert E Darville I can find on FreeBMD. Search period Mar 1870 to Dec 1903. Obviously the second name is different. Looked for Albert and no second initial but still the same result.
