Kiwibird Report 3 Aug 2012 12:03

Hi, have just found this thread, it just so happens I am trying to find the Parents of my Great Grandmothers' first Husband Abraham Cross on the 'Find Ancestors Board'

Am currently working on the possibility that the Abram Cross shown as a Stepson of Joseph Craney in the 1871 Census is my Abraham therefore Making his Mother Johanna who married James Craney.

She was Joanna Power born Waterford, Ireland, She married Christian Henry Cross a 'Ships Cook' at the Church of St Paul, Liverpool on the 7th July 186I, Her Father was shown as being John Power a Corn Dealer and his Father was Shown as 'Bastion Cross a Cook Born Lancashire.

How ever can not find any records for either' Bastian [possibly short for Sebastian] or Christian Henry Cross other than in this Parish Marriage Entry

Also have a Parish Marriage Entry for James Craney and Johanna Power at St Martin in the Fields, Vauxhall. Liverpool on 2nd Dec 1882. James' Father is Shown as Alexander Craney and Johanna's' Father is shown as John Power. Both Fathers being Deceased.

Though interestingly she is shown as living at the same address 21 Tatlock Street as the Groom and is shown as a Spinster!!!!
The possibility is that she may have left Christian Cross and as she would have been unable to divorce was in fact stating herself to be Single. Especially as she was living as the Wife of James Craney according to the 1871 Census. at least 11 years before she and James Married.

Am Thinking!!!! as James didn't marry Johanna till 1882 then he must have been married before because Alexander was b circa 1868 ??

I've seen this death for Johanna in Birkenhead and know that she had children in the area but as you say the ages are so far out that it is throughing doubt on it ,
the only thing I can do is to get the death certificate to confirm.
