Of course! That makes perfect sense - and explains why I was getting confused with all the Catherines. Will try to check that out further. The significance of the E now makes more sense and the issue of the flexible age.

Catherine E was born in Nerquis though. It was David and wife Catherine (no E) who moved to Chester. In the census with Catherine's mum, Jane, on it, it says she was born in Huntington which is in the Chester suburbs. I guess this is probably where wife catherine grew up although she's proving hard to track!

Another question.

Do you know where David and catherine married? The only one I can find is in Liverpool in 1894. Date is right but not happy with place.

Your thoughts on James and Catherine E reminded me of something I saw yesterday which didn't make sense but now does. In 1891, Catherine from Nerquis is working as a servant in London.

Arthur Roberts was born in Mold so it's possible Catherine may have known the family - or of them. Wonder if she got pregnant in London and was sent back home by the Roberts.
