I have been researching my family tree, specifically the surname Harmson on and off for over 20 years. However every time I try and find out anything more about one particular relative, the one everyone told me was the black sheep, I draw a blank. I have him on the 1911 census and see he married (then from family he deserted the family just after the WW1). There I draw a total blank. No death record for him in this country and have looked at America and Canada but nothing there either. I am frustrated as don't know what to do next.

Can anyone offer any suggestions

Thanks

Carol

Carol, can you post some more info, eg DOB, POB, parents, wife, children?

Have you asked about him before? If not, maybe if you post 1911 onto here folks might be able to come up with something.

Hi his name is George Harmson born 1886 in Sculcoates, Yorkshire, his father was George Harmson born York 1858 his mother Esther Harmson born York. The George who I am searching for (1886 birth) married Lily Curtis in 1912. This is the lady he deserted.

He served in the army during WW1 but survived it but shortly afterwards there was a big fall out and no one heard from him again.

Hope someone can push me in the right direction,

thanks

I see what you mean - not a trace. Maybe he emigrated? Did think about this one but how likely is it really!

EDITThere is a corresponding George Armson birth in Leics which I would say is him.

It looks very much as if he changed his name . Did he have children with lily ? he may not have wanted to surport them so did a name change .

No chance of finding him if so .!

I know, I got those results too. My family are very good at cutting people off!

I will have to wait for the 1912 census to come out so I can see if that yields anything.

Thanks for your assistance

I would bet you will find him somewhere under the name of Harrison - an obvious transcription error.

Last year! I watched one of them programs that finds people who can collect money coz their rellies died!!! and on there they said a man often changed his name if he left his family ie deserted

So prehaps this is one of those men

Now this death here may be him I found a death and sent for a certificate and it was who i was looking for coz the informant name was a person in the family ...worth a try

Have you tried Search Trees on this site?

There are other members with the surname Harmson in their trees.

You might find a connection?

If (as you say ) he was in the Army + fought in WW1 + survived that conflict -- He should be easy to find through his army record and Medal rolls If he stayed in the forces after WW1 maybe his records show when +where his discharge address was There may be his change of name on his discharge forms (if he did change his name) Regards Bob B
