Re "They were married supposedly on May 7th 1846 in Wishaw."

It's interesting that they state Wishaw rather than the CofS parish Cambusnethan. That makes me think they weren't married in the parish kirk. However, that in itself doesn't mean they weren't married in the CofS.
(My grandad's b.rego says his parents were wed in Deer, rather than Old Deer, but they were wed by the minister of Old Deer. He performed many marrs outside the kirk itself - I've not seen the actual parish register to confirm that he recorded it there as he should have - I just have the civil m.rego since this was post 1855.)

It must also raise the possibility he was wed in some non-conformist kirk, maybe a free or dissenting kirk or even RC. SP now has RC records scanned, but I think many non-conformist registers are not available for one reason or another.

A third possibility is an irregular marr. In the 1920s, these formed 15% of all marrs, but were less common in the 1850s. In 1855, only 6 were registered, but I think that's down to a lack of registration, not a lack of irregular marrs.

Since they give specific details, I'm sure a marr did take place, even if no record of it is obtainable.

Certificate on Scotlands People has him dying 26 Feb 1910 aged 82.. Widower of Elizabeth Douglas.

He died at York Street, Wishaw.

His parents were:

Re Scottish marriages. On the birth certificates of my grandmother and great aunts and uncles, their mother Mary Jane lists herself as being married to the same man on three separate occasions and at three diffferent churches. Never found any marriage. Suspect they never wed.

Is that a cross-over peenie your ancestor's wearing ... I haven't seen one of those in years although I remember everybody's mother wearing one. I came across an old shop a few years ago still selling them ... brought back happy memories.

That's right. My mother (me ma) used to put it on in the morning and it never came off all day, well maybe late on in the evening. I do recall one of those linen catalogues having them but I think I'll pass on one. Yes, lovely memories.
