I'm not certain Diane, but not finding them in 1901 I am wondering if maria had died? there are several possible deaths between 1891 and 1901...and there is also a marriage which may or may not be Benjamin ?

Perhaps if someone can look on the 1911 it will clear that up,

possible?

Thanks again Rose...by the way does anyone know what a Night Soil man would do...it doesn't sound very nice. I have a mug that was once owned by Benjamin. I'd better give it a good wash!

He makes my Ag Labs look classy!

I think it is what it sounds like lol

this may be Maria's death, which would fit in with a second marriage for Benjamin. I don't have 1911 credits so hopefully someone can look

Deaths Dec 1896 (>99%)
Smith Maria 59 Bramley 9b 222

No grass under his feet then, and a younger woman to boot.

Marriages Mar 1897 (>99%)
Bates Adeline Leeds 9b 481
Smith Benjamin Leeds 9b 481

Cheeky chap. No wonder his cause of death was a heart attack.

Thank you Maryb, for finding the final piece of the puzzle. It all fit with the marriage, his birthplace and age. Well, quite some family gossip now.

Thanks to all who have helped with this thread.

Eugh! He had tuned it down to Farmer on his death cert - Funny how it didn't state how many acres...

My Mum wasn't impressed - "But at least he was employed". But it will stop her turning her nose up at Dads Ag Labs. Dad even has a Master Confectioner on his side.
