Hi,
I was told some of my Ancestors were sent to Canada in the early 1900`s after their mother died in 1906 and some were
taken into care.I don`t know which ones though.
These are the names of the children in the family.
Henry Reddall born 1888
Benjamin Reddall born 1889
Harold Reddall born 1890
Gertrude Reddall born 1896
Can anyone check on the passenger lists to Canada please.
Thankyou
Carol

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 21 Jun 2009 22:00

Would have thought it was only Gertrude that was sent as the elder siblings would be too old come 1906 to go into a childrens homes. I believe Barnardos have the Middlemore Homes data so you could apply to them for her file

Starting from
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/index-e.html

LAC only has these passenger lists indexed by ship, but with the info here we can look up Siberian (23/6/)1906 at:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/001045-100.01-e.php

List includes "Children from Middlemore's Homes, Birmingham"
There's an 11 y.o Frank Reddell on p4
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/e/e148/e003699017.jpg
Gertrude Reddall is on p5
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/e/e148/e003699016.jpg

You can search the 1911 at:
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.html

1911 Census of Canada
Home / 1911 / Quebec / Compton / 50 Sawyerville / page 9 split view
23 106 Riddell Gertrude F Servant S Mar 1896 15

LAC only has a geographic search for 1911, but their "search help" is useful for interpreting the census:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1911/index-e.html
One can either view the census via AG's "split view" link or as:
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1911/pdf/e002051137.pdf

Sawyerville is 30km ESE of Sherbrooke, halfway to the US border.

If you put Gertrude's name in SEARCH (located beneath GR logo at top left hand of page) there are 4 trees (including Carol's) with her listed.

Didn't see there were later children however home children were not sent until they were around 10 years old minimum .We have a home child in my mums family sent to Canada in 1909 aged just 10.
So the younger children may well have been in homes but then not sent to Canada when they became around 10 yers of age

I checked for a marriage for Frank Reddall and couldn't find one. Then checked CWGC for Frank Reddall and found this :

Name: REDDALL, FRANK
Initials: F
Nationality: Canadian
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment)
Unit Text: 14th Bn.
Date of Death: 20/05/1915
Service No: 22627
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Memorial: VIMY MEMORIAL

So if he was related it looks as if he too went to Canada.
