Can Anyone make sense of this information i have been given and what to do with it. i'm guessing its somethin to do with the war.

RGA
Cone of the three parts of the royal artillery.

I cannot explain it all but 12299 would be his service number,GNR (gunner) would be his rank which is a private, 387th Siege Batty, what part of his regiment he is in, For infantry it would be eg.A Company but Artillery have battery's, RGA would be Royal Garrison Artillery, which is his regiment

Thanks For this. I Have located the card on Ancestry but have been unable to find a death for him. Do you think its possible he died in the war hence the reason i cant find his death record?

RGA stands i believe for Royal Garrison Artillery.
He was in the 387th Siege Battilion.

The record would be from World War 1.12299 Would be his number and i think it may have had a 0 on the end too? Also found this, but as you hadn't listed his birthyear i cannot say its him, other than the numbers seem to match.

about Arthur S Foster

They would be dealing with the large guns, these would be the long distance artillery that shot from a distance to bomb trenches.

There are Army Service Records coming up on Ancestry for two Arthur Stanley Fosters. If you don't have an Ancestry subscription, perhaps somebody who does could look them up for you.
