Megs Dicky Island

Megs Dicky Island Report 20 Jun 2008 17:50

Hi Lynda D

Just had a look at 1901c with no name and just birth year and Thorndon, found a R Ruckle who was a boarder living in London born 1872 Thorndon, Suffolk can't find any other R Ruckle with that birth year on any other census.
Don't claim to know what I am doing, but maybe it is him.
Stranger things have happened.

Yes i think you'll find that was me, now i know why this was ringing bells

Wilma666 Report 20 Jun 2008 17:45

Are you able to search on Ancestry using place and year of birth but no name?

Wilma666 Report 20 Jun 2008 17:43

Hi Margaret, I didn't work that out, someone on an earler post did!! I'm not that clever!!

Just thinking aloud - he could have anglicised his name to James ...

He could have taken "his father's name" of Lovett ...

Very good, Lynda!
Charles William Studd married Anna Elizabeth Theobald Dec. Q 1891, Bosmere. (4a 1542)

I think that's a very plausible assumption too.

So if Ann and Harry are around in 1901 - then it's only Jacob Reuben that's missing?

Wilma666

Wilma666 Report 20 Jun 2008 17:40

I wondered what the name Theobald would have sounded like with a Suffolk accent, and I was going to try to find him using that

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 20 Jun 2008 17:34

Yes, your assumption sounds very plausible to me. Still doesn't explain, though, where they all are in 1901.

Wilma666

Wilma666 Report 20 Jun 2008 17:33

Hi Jill, I think that by 1901 Anna had married Charles Studd and Harry is known by Studd then.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 20 Jun 2008 17:32

Oh yes, I should have checked that. Both Reuben and Anna were single in 1891. I'm slapping my wrist!

Wilma666

Wilma666 Report 20 Jun 2008 17:32

My assumption of this is (and it's only a guess!!)

I have Jacob's bc and his mother was Mary Ann Theobald - no father.

I don't have Anna's bc but I have Harry's and he is Anna's son - no father.

Mary Ann Theobald was the housekeeper (and maybe more!!) for George Lovett.

If George Lovett was Anna and Jacob's father that would explain why Harry is listed as Georges grandson and why both Jacob and Anna (and Harry) are living with George Lovett after their mother's (Mary Ann) death in 1881.

Does this sound possible?

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 20 Jun 2008 17:30

Cannot even find Harry in 1901 .

I have tried just putting in Thorndon, Suffolk as birthplace and then trying relevant range of years for birth - but nothing pings out of the page at me.

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 20 Jun 2008 17:24

Having looked at 1891 - If George Lovett is Harry's grandfather then one of his sons is Harry's father - and not married to Anna ... Or am I making assumptions here?

Sorry - still trying to find Reuben in 1901.

Wilma666

Wilma666 Report 20 Jun 2008 17:19

I think Jacob reuben and Anna are brother and sister, not husband and wife,

Wilma666

Wilma666 Report 20 Jun 2008 17:18

I have obtained Harry's birth certificate and he is Anna's son - No father.

Wilma666 Report 20 Jun 2008 17:17

I can't find a marriage for him and I can't find a death in WW1. I haven't found him on passenger lists either.

I was wondering if the spelling was transcribed differently on GR again.

Earlier this week I found DEE* transcribed by Ancestry as DERR^ and GR had it as DEI* (The writing was quite bad though and GR have corrected their entry).

I am worried that the same misinterpretation has happened here

Julie

Julie Report 20 Jun 2008 17:15

I was just looking for a Lovett/Theobolds marriage and can't see one

Also that would make Jacob 16 when Harry was born

This is also ringing bells with me, so think i might of tried to help before

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 20 Jun 2008 17:13

Something doesn't add up here.
On the 91 census Reuben Theobald and wife Anna are lodgers living with George Lovett. There's a grandson Harry Theobald with them. He can't be Rueben's grandson so must be George Lovett's. Does that mean Anna was a Lovett and Harry is a son of Reuben & Anna?

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 20 Jun 2008 17:09

Did he marry? If so, what was his wife's name and when did he marry?

Did he have children? Any names/dates for those?

Or

Have you looked for a death cert?
