This isn’t some chainmail bullshit, so read carefully.
There is a new online threat that you should all be aware of. A bunch of websites that promise to “show you who blocked you on MSN” have surfaced on the Internet. If you come across one of these, do NOT provide your MSN username / passwords. Leave the website immediately.
They:
1. Email all your contacts, advertising their “services” or/and send them links to viruses
2. Add your email to their Spam lists or/and sell it for profit
3. Login to MSN when you’re not active(i.e: you are not chatting with anyone or you’re offline), and either msg all your contacts with virus links, or advertise their “services”
If you receive an email containing a link to such websites, do not click on the link, just delete it.
...and change your password.

This is the link DO NOT TRY IT!

Heather

It's as dead as a door nail! Lost everything!
I do have a second hard drive so heres hoping thats safe.

I switched on the other morning and there was a messenger window from a friend on my Messenger......it just said "look at this! you can find out who has blocked you"...

That'll teach me to be nosey....

Thankyou to everyone that has kept this at the top.

Oh Gerri, well they count on that dont they - its like the scam I received from supposedly an ebay member demanding to know where the item they bought from me was! Well Id never sold anything on ebay but there was a link on the email giving the item number so I clicked to see what I was supposed to have sold and not delivered - when I got there it was a very authentic ebay page asking for my password to log in and I ALMOST entered it when I suddenly realised it was a scam. I wonder how many poor souls were caught by that one.

The scams of giving your details to Building Societies, Banks etc are also doing the rounds.
I also see there is one about a Google account.
Also one about not paying a Credit Card.
I just delete the lot.

WHY NOT block Messenger - I got fed up with all those pop-ups with 'URGENT CRITICAL ERROR' messages informing that I had problems which could be sorted by contacting the links.

Since blocking messenger I have had no problems - although I was warned I might miss out on a genuine message.

Can you re-boot your lap-top using restore programme, or set up discs?

This particular one is a pain in the proverbial, mainly for all the people on you mailing list you send it to, but shouldn't trash your computer.

For some reason, it does not register as spyware or virus, so anti-virus/spyware programs will not work.

Here is a solution I found googling

Step 1
Open ’My Computer’. Also, make sure neither AIM, Yahoo or MSN instant messenger is running.

Step 2
Select Local Disk.

Step 3
Open the folder, Download Files. If a message comes up saying something like, ’These programs help keep your computer running properly. These files are hidden’, then just click, ’Show the Contents of this Folder’.

Step 4
Find the folder named ’Block Checker’.

Step 5
Right click it and select ’Properties’.

Step 6
Click where it says Read Only. Then click OK.

Step 7
Open the folder, and delete the 2nd file. This, I believe, is the virus.

DONE

Alternate
If you have a Firewall, preferably ZoneAlarm, just go to the programs section and disable Block-Checker.
