That is the best thing about this site, people trying to help each other - I've had lots of help in the past for which I'm eternally grateful! And it's good fun trying to unravel a mystery.

You know where to come if you need more help in the future.

How nice to see a thread this old resurrected instead of a new one started. One from my very early days on the boards.

It seems to have moved well on and I'm not going to read all four pages to see whether what I did at the beginning was useful. I think I'd left off after going that far to wait for a response. That didn't come. If it had, who knows how far we might have got three years ago? I guess without the 1911 yet, not so far.

Must say I'm rather surprised that I never got a shred of acknowledgement at the time, in the thread or by PM, and now in the post on the success stories board.

Mea culpa! I didn't find any record of PMs because I didn't check under the name showing on them. Yup, leesle sent me a PM a while after I posted here.

And what did I say when I replied? ;)

"A tip for future ref -- it's generally much appreciated if you reply by posting in your thread rather than by private message. New posts in a thread show up in the "My threads" list of anyone who posted in it -- the link to click over on the left of the Trying to Find board -- but with private messages we have to go hunting up the thread out of the dozens many of us will have posted in since then."

Not to mention the hundreds -- thousands?? -- we've posted in (and got PMs about) since Feb 2008!

I see in 2009 you were answering by PM about something else ... but in that case there was very good reason. ;)

Still a tip, though -- others like to see that help offered has been noticed, so always wise to reply in the thread!

I agree with Janey, unless it is sensitive information best to keep it to the boards - lot easier to follow! Janey - I can't believe you've only been doing this since 2008, thought you'd been around for decades! (I'll duck now before she throws something at me).

Leesle, look forwarding to hearing back from you when you've got the certificates, as Choccy says, an eventful morning! And an interesting one!

Well ... 2007. And I was already oooold then. ;)

My apologies to leesle again.

(When I reply by PM these days, I always remember to put a link to the thread, and put the surname(s) in question in the subject line, so I'll know what on earth the messages were about if I have to check back to them in future!)
