Hi Joyce I realy dont have any answers. You could get a copy of the entry in the marriage register but I dont think it will give you anything more than the marriage cert. If you think this is worth while then you will need to ask the local records office to send you a copy. Their web site is: archive(.)liverpool(.)gov(.)uk/researchdetails(.)html ignore brackets in address. Suzanne

I'm having difficulty getting my head around the facts here. Correct me if I'm wrong, please! 1. Ada Mary BASSINDALE married in 1893. 2. She states at time of marriage her father = John BASSINDALE (deceased) licenced victualler 3. In the birth certs of at least one child her maiden name is shown as BASSINDALE. 4. In the 1901 census her place of birth is Manchester. 5. There are no sure sighting pre-marriage in any census 6. There is no John BASSINDALELicenced Victualler in any of the census or Historucal Directories. 7. The names of the witnesses of the marriage do not appear to assist. Has anyone found this Mary BUNFIELD. Could it be BINFIELD?? Pete

Hi Joyce No I dont suppose they will be able to find her birth but you might want to get the marriage entry as another point of reference: http(://)archive(.)liverpool(.)gov.uk/home(.)html try this ignore brackets again. Suzanne

Dont remeber johnson bassindale ~ wonder how we missed him! will take him back and see what occurs..... mind you, according to Ada when she married he should be dead! ~~1901~~ Ethel Bassindale abt 1891 Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England Daughter Gainsborough Lincolnshire Everson J Bassindale abt 1892 Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England Son Gainsborough Lincolnshire Johnson Bassindale abt 1856 Blaston, Lincolnshire, England Head Gainsborough Lincolnshire Lizzie Bassindale abt 1885 Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England Daughter Gainsborough Lincolnshire Maude Bassindale abt 1887 Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England Daughter Gainsborough Lincolnshire Milly Bassindale abt 1894 Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England Daughter Gainsborough Lincolnshire Thomas Robinson abt 1848 Epworth, Lincolnshire, England Boarder Gainsborough Lincolnshire occupation: general carrier drayman (?) i think ==================================== ~~1891~~ Bassindale, Alice M abt 1887 Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England Daughter Gainsborough Lincolnshire Bassindale, Annie E abt 1885 Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England Daughter Gainsborough Lincolnshire Bassindale, Edith abt 1888 Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England Daughter Gainsborough Lincolnshire Bassindale, Emma abt 1862 Misterton, Nottinghamshire, England Wife Gainsborough Lincolnshire Bassindale, Ethel abt 1890 Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England Daughter Gainsborough Lincolnshire Bassindale, Johnson abt 1860 Blachstone Grange, Yorkshire, England Head Gainsborough Lincolnshire address 1a Coffee tavern yard ...a groom ======================================== ~~1881~~ a servant.... Oh Jess, You've done them too! The more I look at Johnson the less convinced I am about him. He is the only one with any vague connection with the brewery trade and has father named John but no obvious connection to Ada. What about the Ada born 1865. BASSINDALE Ada. Qtr: March Dist: Thorne Vol 9c Page 566 I expect that this is the one shown as daugher of Robert and Emma in the 1871 census. Hasn't she been 'flogged to death' as an option? Ada Bassindale abt 1865 Wroot, Lincolnshire, Daughter Emma Bassindale abt 1846 Hatfield, Yorkshire, England Wife Frank Bassindale abt 1869 Finningley, Nottinghamshire, Son Fred Bassindale abt 1867 Blaxton, Yorkshire, Son George Bassindale abt 1871 Finningley, Nottinghamshire, Son Robert Bassindale abt 1842 Belton, Lincolnshire, Head John Kirby abt 1842 Newcastle, Staffordshire, Lodger So what is stopping this one from being Samuel's wife. Reason 1 According marriage cert born c1869. She wouldn't be the first girl to knock a couple of years off so her old man thinks he's wedding a young maid! Reason 2. Place of birth according to 1901 census is wrong - and not even close. Reason 3. Father's name according to marriage cert is John. Why would she want to say the wrong name. If her father was Robert, he was still alive at the time of the marriage. However no record of a beer selling John BASSINDALE has been found so far. So what happens to 1865 Ada then????? Pete

Pete, Ive only 'done them' because otherwise i look and forget what i have looked at and why i have dismissed it. cant find the louisa with grandfather in 1871 , back in 1861 anyway!!

Pete

Pete Report 9 Jan 2006 20:29

I agree, Jess. I have written the reasons why she is wrong (above) because I'll forget too - and when this question gets reposted in a month's time it might just stop one of attempting to reinvert the wheel I suppose a long laborious search through directories for the Manchester area may just locate a beer selling John, but there is nothing in the directories on the Historic Directories website that fits the bill.
