Hello Rachel, Please can I ask two look-ups? 1. The marriage of William Cheesley/Cheeseley to Hanna Bond, probably Marylebone pre 1844. 2. Apprentership record for John William Cheesley/Cheeseley who was born Chelsea 1871. It would have been pre 1889 as he was enlisted into the army about then. Thank you. Jay

Hi Rachel I have two requests, firstly could you the marriage of John Dickson and Ann (surname unknown) around 1826 possibly St Pancras or St James, Westminister. And secondly trying to find the apprentice details of William Robert Hamlin who was a organ builder.

Hi Lynn, Sorry I must have missed you when typing the replies yesterday. The only details I could find were in the vicar general marriage licence applications. They were for a Stowell and a Warr, on 18th June 1808. I do not get the first names or places so cannot tell if it is your Samuel. the society of Genealogists may have more information as that is where much of British origins data comes from. Kind regards Rachel

Sue, Nothing is coming up for the Rackham marriage but if you are interested 2 George Rackhams come up for the militia attestations in Norfolk. Also some more Rackhams from Suffolk. Let me know if you want the details. Rachel.

Rachel Report 9 Jun 2006 10:13

Hi Sheila, Sorry, nothing comes up for the apprenticeship for Thomas Henry Davies. This is the best that comes up for William Whitehead, it is Militia attestations. William WHITEHEAD Born Bermondsey, Enrolled to West Surrey Regiment TNA refernece WO96/30, Sequence no - 417 - this doesn’t give me a year I only know it is somewhere between 1881-1895 The index records give the last name and first name of the militiaman, place and county of birth, and The National Archives reference. So you can get the original from the National Archives. . They show the following details: name and number birthplace (can be anywhere in the world, including America, Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, as well as all over the British Isles) age whether British subject current place of residence where they have lived for the previous twelve months occupation present employer's name if an apprentice, name of master, date and place of indenture marital status number of children under 14 years of age whether they have been in prison whether they belong to the army or navy whether they have served in forces and if they have any pension if they were rejected for the services, on what grounds number of years to serve full description including marks statement of services: there are questions regarding service abroad, whether wounded, special instances of gallant conduct and medals; injuries in or by Army service. name and address of next of kin (In some instances show the mother, brothers and sisters and their addresses; the addresses can be world-wide.) The Attestation was filled in at the time of recruitment, and if a man was found to be medically unfit all his details remained on file. So even if your ancestor did not serve as a militiaman there may be something about him in these documents. Do you have their marriages? This came up in the Boyd's marriage index: 1828 WITEHEAD WM BATEMAN BETT ENFIELD MIDDLESEX I hope this helps, Rachel
