Brilliant! Thanks so much. I was downloading the 1911 as you posted! It is certainly him. And therefore leads me to the conclusion that she left him going by her track record.

I cant find a birth reg or death for the baptism for the child Gill in 1881 either.
I wonder what happened there ?

By 1883 Annie is a "Hawker" at her marriage. I've tried to find Hawker licence records, but got nowhere.

Similarly with Sarah her mother. A fuller story may paint a better background for this Annie. But I'm getting very close to thinking this is Annie Townsend on the 1883 marriage to Wilton, posted before.

Interesting -

Frederick and Sarah Rooks were the witnesses at Annie and Reginald's marriage in 1880.

They were their next-door neighbours in 1881. The Gills were at 81 South Street, and the Rooks at 80 South Street.

You deserve a medal, well spotted. I thought for a second that Sarah her mother had remarried, but that can't be, because she is with them &1880 :-S :-D

If you buy the 1864 birth cert for Annie Ellen Hooper it will tell you her mother's name.

I feel sure that's the right child.

I came across this, which looks as if it should fit in somewhere.
Big coincidence of names if it doesn't.

playing with the name Murray Hooper... I dont know if this is even relevant, but
there is a James Murray 26 Carpenter b. Taunton, also in South Street in 1871.

We shouldn't jump to conclusions - but that does sound good.

James Murrey was also in South Street, in 1861 and 1851, with his grandparents Peter and Ellen Murrey.
