Mike * Report 2 Mar 2011 20:12

I'm afraid I'm not sure at all.

The 1881 census for Thomas the shoemaker can't be her husband.

If it's her mother's husband then ??????????

Lynda, a word of advice - don't get too caught up with exact names. Old writing can be difficult to read and names often get trnscribed incorrectly. Also, the person who wrote the entry put what he heard which could be quite different to what was said.

My favourite example is smiths from my family mis-transcribed as Waitt!! It says smith on the image but hard to read unless you already know what it says.

If Mary Ann was born in 1855/6 and married thomas harris 1880 she would have been 25 and she later married a Thomas short he died after having 3 children and on the next marriage certificate it stated her as mary ann Harris but its showing William Ewin as her father (deceased)

Mike * Report 2 Mar 2011 20:44

The Mary Ann Short who married Thomas Harris was born c1860 so the William Ewin born 1867 couldn't be her father.

Lynda

Lynda Report 2 Mar 2011 20:47

Mike * Report 2 Mar 2011 20:51

This looks like Mary Ann short

Birth: 20 MAY 1860

Christening: 21 OCT 1860 Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, England

Parents:
Father: MATTHEW SHORT
Mother: MARY ANN

Which marriage cert has William Ewin as father ?

Lynda

Lynda Report 2 Mar 2011 20:55

the marriage between Mary ann Harris and Thomas Talbot

Mike *

Mike * Report 2 Mar 2011 21:01

So the marriage of 1899.

So the Mary Ann born 1885/86 would be 14.
Is that what age it gives on the cert ?

Lynda

Lynda Report 2 Mar 2011 21:05

this mary ann was born in 1856
