yeah i do aswell ..

just checked on sunderlands page 3 john fishers were born between 1910 and 1912
1 dec 1910
1 dec 1911
but can find the 1912 on the bmd site .

so the dec 1910 birth goes with the marriage cert dates .. but the witness on the cert go with the 1911 date (thompson connection )

on his death in aug 1952 .. this also points to the dec 1911 birth age 40 years

The 1910 could also be Thompson its a risk you take really. I know when I was trying to find my grandfathers birth reg....told he was born 1900 so bought marriage cert 1929 said he was 29 but still could'nt match one up, but found one on the 1911 and 1901 census who had siblings with names I remembered...so ordered a cert for 1897 which turned out to be him

So just because the death record and marriage record steer you towards a date of birth it may not be correct for what ever reason our ancestors decided to lie about their age.

Christine Report 15 Jan 2011 20:53

ohh jax it would just be my luck to be 2 thompsons !!! why oh why did they have to lie !!!!

also to make things more complicated think mams 2 elder sisters (who she was brought up seperatly from when her parents died ) arent johns children as cant find them as Fisher ..they were born in 1931 and 1933.
johns wife ( elizabeth ) was pregenant when they were marrried as mams brother was born just cpl months after the marriage but then there is a 9 year gap to my mother !

hopefully it will all be worth it in the end !!!

Hi again all..you probably sick of me now ..lol..

Just thought I would let you know been today and found out some more info....

The 2 witnesses (ellemore) were actually living with John when he was married so I do think that it was johns sister as someone did point out Catherine(ellemore) was also fisher before marriage

Going to take the plunge and get the 1911 birth cert..

jax Report 18 Jan 2011 21:48

I think it his sister...but thats just me

How do you know they were living with them it does'nt give witnesses address on marriage certs as far as I know

jax

Then if you got catherines birth cert which was easier to find you would deff know who the parents were (only joking of course)

Hi jax..

I have spent all day searching through all the electoral rolls in library .. John was living with them before he married and then both he and Elizabeth moved in with them for a year afterwards ..

so def think Catherine was his sitter.. That's my next search tomorrow. As off to bed now all searched out !!!

Thanks again

Personally, I think Catherine's birth cert would be the most beneficial............you seem sure she was his sister, so the parents' names would be the same.

And you could then make an informed search for a marriage.

Hi Choccy,

That census is the same as the one on Christine's other thread posted by Tempest http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/records_office/thread/1255653 last night.

Hi Christine,
It would be easier if you combined the 2 threads to avoid duplication.
Thanks,
Katie

Right all been looking at the info before I go any further can I share what I we have:-

John fisher was born 13.11.1911 to sarah Ann fisher (Thompson) 35 malings rigg Sunderland.
Married Elizabeth usher 23.2.1935 his add 27 Henry st.
Died 1952 add 17 hedworth street.

John George and Catherine ellemore were the witnesses ..they married dec 1932 and Catharines maiden name was fisher catherine was born 8.1.1914 with her mothers maiden name Thompson...
They lived at the add that John put for his marriage add..
From looking at addreses on electoral roll John lived with them before and after his marriage to elizabeth..
I looked into 35 malings rigg and there is a Thompson family living there in 1911 and 1901 census...
On the electoral roll there is a Thomas thompson 1912-1915 and a john fisher 1912-1914...think this is His grandfather (mams dad) and dad.

Let me know please if you agree....

So the 1914 marriage I posted on Page 2 on Jan 15th must be that of the parents...............

Choccy

Choccy Report 19 Jan 2011 16:27

I thought it was John's dad too. Not sure why he said he was single and his next of kin was his sister Catherine though!

Further on in the records he says he has a son and daughter but no names, dates of birth etc given. It also gives a marriage date in 1914 somewhere else, but again no name of wife or place of marriage.

Am sure it is John Fisher's father.

Christine

Christine Report 19 Jan 2011 16:53

yeah flick you to quick to keep up with and need a medal !!!!!!

father john and mother sarah ann .. thats the marriage on page 2

i know john (jnr) was in the army have his army number but no dates as yet as trying to put off sending £30 for the records ...

also looks like his father also served during the war from the info choccy found.. sorry im still just learning to read/ understand all the meanings etc does the 1914-1920 mean he served for the full war or just some time in them years ?

so if his next of king is SISTER Catherine .. this is another line to look at as it will not be the same Catherine previously mentioned (jnr johns sister ) who wasnt born untill jan 1914..they will be the son and daughter..

cant thanks you all enough for the help you have gave !!!!

agghhhh

if on john 1911 birth cert it says mam as sarah ann fisher formerly thompson.. this means she is married to his dad john right ????

so when i have gone to link the john fisher marriage to sarah ann thompson do i find it the marriage date to be 1914 ???

She may have lied about being married rather than have him registered in her maiden name
