Yes it is pay per view, and I don't have a subscription either. Perhaps someone else will have a look.

I actually found the entry on beta.familysearch.org.

So back to square 1. Howerever, it looks as if you can discount Mary Guirney.

What makes you think Mary Guinea married in Somerset?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 13 Dec 2010 22:07

A tree on Ancestry says that George Washington Rumsey was born 1843, USA, British Subject, son of John Rumsey (1816-1895) and Mary Elizabeth Guinea (1823-1900). It says he died 25 March 1866, Trent, Lenoir, North Carolina, USA.
It also says that John Rumsey was born in Dorset and was the son of Ann Rumsey (1802-)

Edit: Good grief! Ann would only have been 14!

Lisa

Lisa Report 13 Dec 2010 22:12

Hi Margaret.

George died in Burton on Trent area, so i think the tree owner has mistakenly put Carolina,USA.

Ann 14yrs...blimey.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 13 Dec 2010 22:20

A similar one that I worked on was someone who had died in Rutland, England and someone had decided it was Rutland, Vermont, USA. I guess we shouldn't trust trees on Ancestry?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 13 Dec 2010 22:24

Just to explain that one before going off for some hunting -- whoever owns that tree has behaved like so many people who just don't give a fig about reality and adopt Ancestry's stupid, obnoxious hints. You say Burton on Trent. Ancestry's system saw "Trent" and offered up the "hint" for Trent, NC (Ancestry being resolutely USAmerican), and the fool of a tree owner adopted it.

No doubt that GWR did not die in the US at all, but now this genealogical pollution is floating around the great big all-inclusive unitary tree of the universe at Ancestry, and working its way outward ...

JC -- whose grx4 grandfather the parish clerk in Cornwall in the 1700s was *not* the father of anyone born in Tennessee, no matter how many trees on Ancestry say he was!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 13 Dec 2010 22:30

re the 1838 marriage in Bedminster -- what's the John Rumsey connection?

(a) 1838 makes her a little young if she was born c1823

(b) you have to click on the page number at FreeBMD to see the other people on the page, one of whom is the spouse of that MG:

Marriages Jun 1838 )
GUINEA Mary Bedminster 11 73
HANCOCK George Bedminster 11 73
HEDGES Thomas Bedminster 11 73
HUNT Sarah Bedminster 11 73
PHILLIPS Louisa Bedminster 11 73
Price Mary Bedminster 11 73
SIDMAN James Bedminster 11 73
SIMS James Bedminster 11 73

No Rumsey, and no one apparently missing by mistranscription.

Lisa

Lisa Report 13 Dec 2010 22:40

Hi Janey.

Thank you for your help also.

The bedminister marriage one, i was trying to find any connection as where John and Mary married either here in the UK or abroad, seeing as the eldest children George W and John are listed as US British Subjects.

But i guess that Bedminister marriage can be eliminated now.

Not in the same household, but on the same page.

Tyneham is 2 miles from Steeple.
