I've had a bit of a read through this, and Mary could not have been 10 in 1911 otherwise she'd have been on the 1901 census.

.....or was she an undeclared baby on the census, newly born and they simply forgot about her in the fluster of it all.....(has happened before)?

She may have been born in the 2Q of 1901 and they have 'rounded' her up in age to the nearest one making her 9 in reality but 10 on the paperwork.

I shal scour the list of all the Mary's born Northumberland in 2Q of 1901 and see if i can find a likely candidate. It''s possible with the error on the marriage entry that he didn't know (at the time) how to actually spell his name correctly!

A little left of centre...

Births Mar 1902 - Vickers Mary Grace D - Newcastle T. 10b 38

Vevers - Vickers?

I can't find this person as yet on the 1911 census.

T x

EDIT: The only Mary Grace Vickers on the 1911 who comes close to age (3yrs 1908) is this one.

Births Sep 1905 - Vickers Mary Grace - Morpeth 10b 478

1911 Census
Registration District: - Morpeth
VICKERS, Mary Grace Daughter F 3 1908 North Newcastle

Living with parents and siblings.

Can someone else please try and find the 1902 Mary.

Thanks |Tracey but she WAS on 1911 cencus:

1911:

VEVERS, William Head Married M 58 1853 Bricklayer Cumberland Carlisle
VEVERS, Marget Wife Married 15 years F 54 1857 Scotland Canon Tre Resident
VEVERS, Mary Daughter F 10 1901 School Northumberland N C

Address:
27 Sheraton St Spital Tongues Newcastle on Tyne County:
Northumberland

Two thoughts spring up here:

The mother is Scotish - could she have gone up there to have the baby, or soon after, and registered her there?

Given the ages of the parents, the fact they have been married for 15 years and there is only one child, maybe she was 'adopted' ?

...............

We just can't find her birth!

Thanks for help.

Dea,

I was referring to the Mary Vickers not being on the 1911 census !!

Vickers and Vevers are very close, with accents etc. I cannot at the min find this Mary Grace D Vickers on the 1911, if she's not there then it adds weight to my left of centre thought!

I beat you to it.... why i never looked first is beyond me.

I was trying to rule out all other options before i resorted to the same one as you...

It's possible she could be the child of one of Margaret's children?

The child would be born with which ever surname was used previously (or in the case of married female child then name of the husband)?

In that instance 'Mary' could well be on the 1901 census.

I still cannot get my head around the fact Mary was 10 in 1911 but not on the 1901 census!

Out of interest, what does it say in the columns "children born alive to present marriage" in 1911?

I wonder if she was in hospital or more likely being 'wet nursed' ...if her mom was Margaret then she may have been too old to breast feed

..and there was no SMA around in those days!

Trace, you may well be right about another name on 1901

No sign of a marriage or death for Mary in the Newcastle area.

Margaret died in 1930. I wonder who the informant was?
