Marion,
Thank you again, I hadn't seen that. Arthur street is the address in Greenock where Johns wife died and daughter Mary was born there. It might be a close with a number of different flats .

SandraE....For ref:

BAILEY Phoebe Ann Bailey, aunt of John King, died at 5 Arthur Street, Greenock in Sept 1873.

So in theory unless this was a 'multi-dwelling' looks like the Morgan's/Campbells moved here after the 1881 Census when the Hansen family were listed as living at No.5.

Christine,
It's only freely available if you know what you're doing and I certainly don't have much of a clue. My daughter Amanda started this family tree and gave up on it, so I have taken over but I'm not doing very well, it's all trial and error with me (mostly error) Lol.
I really do appreciate all your help, thank you and thank you to Marion as well.

Evening SandraE.....Dont despair...its a long slow process in most cases and you just have to look at all the messages on the boards to realise you cant do it over nite...You have done really well so far but at some stage you will have to consider buying some Certs. to confirm you are on the right trail !!!!
I have sent you a PM (personal message) .

Sandra Report 13 Nov 2009 10:04

Christine,
Thank you very much.
I have bought quite a few certs from SP and I have also viewed a lot on there, but some of the writing is very old and unreadable.
Thank you so much for all your help.

Sandra
Elizabeth Reilly Campbell was born on 22 August 1900 address 5 Arthur Street Greenock. The register shows the birth as illegitimate the mother Elizabeth Campbell. The birth was registered by the childs grandmother Agnes Campbell. Now for the interesting bit there is a Register of Corrected Entries which states that the father is a Robert Campbell jnr of 5 Regent St Greenock. Elizabeth obv raised the action in court and it was upheld. Elizabeth is noted as a dressmaker and Robert an apprentice boilermaker
