Hello Helen unfortunately there are a number of Charles Hall convicted between 1871 and 1881 so no way of knowing which might be him . many of the records dont give an age .

On the 1871 census James David Vale 1847 of Romford Essex is shown as an inmate at Essex County Gaol - prisoner. I have checked the Quarter sessions at Essex RO but haven't found anything.
