Hello all.
Sorry i didn't do my homework properly on the infant Robert Pettigrew-musn't get carried away and forget the rules of checking.
Carole do you know anything about Jane's parents-could her mother's maiden name be Carr? Also do you have a street address for Hunters Cottages and/or parish it was in as it may be possible to find it in the 1861 census if you do?
Julie

Hi Julie
Had to have my weekly fix of, "Have I Got News For You"
Now down to business!
Jane's mother was Agnes WILSON and I have been unable to find any Carr connection in either Jane or Robert's family!
They were not at Hunter's Cottages at the time of the 1861 census. A kind researcher did a check some weeks ago; I believe on Find my Past, where I believe one can check by address - I think that was what she told me?

Hi LforW
Any hot favourites in that selection of brides?
Nothing leaps out at me.

I thought I had found her. I discovered an Agness Murdoch, claiming to be a widow, in the 1861 census.(She would wouldn't she?)
I got really excited when I discovered that she had a six year old son, Robert Murdoch and her husband was from Stair. But ... it turned out that the husband had been a John Murdoch; not Robert. ... Boo Hoo!!!

I will have a look around these candidates. I did check out the Hutchison one last night and it didn't work out ..brain gone, can't remember why not.

Carole

Carole Report 17 Oct 2008 22:04

I think I have found seven spellings of Pettigrew to date? It threw me in the beginning but now I largely ignore it.

Carole

Carole Report 17 Oct 2008 22:30

I said I had reasons for favouring the Warkworth couple Jane and Robert Carr, despite their claim to have been born in Northumberland! .. and the fact that they are using the name Carr at an unexpected date!
The link is complicated ... but here goes ...
Jane's sister, Isabella's third!! husband was one William CUTHBERTSON.

Jane's eldest Montgomery child, David, lived in the CUTHBERTSON house for some time.

David travelled to Durham, where he met and married an Elizabeth Purvis, daughter of Thomas Purvis a coalminer

Thomas Purvis was related to a John Purvis a farmer in Warkworth, Northumberland.

In the 1851 census, John Purvis had, living at the farm, his aunt Ann CUTHBERTSON, widow of a George Cuthbertson. (Previous thread, John Purvis of Northumberland)

As I said, a bit complicated but a solid link nontheless: so I wouldn't be amazed if the Warkworth couple turned out to be my Robert and Jane?

Now we have 'shot down in flames' the baby Pettigrew death .. I suppose we should look at the Easington Carrs again? In April 1861, they had a two year old named Robert ... and a 10 month baby named William. ... Neither of these are with my family at the next census, so if this is the correct family unit, the children must both have died? ... Robert before March 1864, when another Robert was born?

We already have Robert & Jane as Petticrew in 1871 census so they can't be those Carr's. Going back to the other Carr's there are deaths for Robert & William Carr 1861 & 1862 in Durham on free BMD -haven;t checked out the birth possibilities for them yet though.

Carole

Carole Report 17 Oct 2008 23:37

Oh dear!!!!
Definitely proved wrong on the Warkworth one!!! They had to be elsewhere in the next two censuses; and they had to be using the name Pettigrew in 1871.

The Bishopwearmouth one is still possible .... but it doesn't feel right. I am keeping it in reserve though??
The two deaths would fit if they check out?

Whilst all this could prove useful sometime...... Nothing is ever wasted.......
......I must get back on track and SEARCH FOR THE MYSTERY WIFE?......
I'm not very successful with Familysearch. Do either of you know if there are any clever advanced searches, that can be done, that give any additional marriage information?
I wish there was a manual, called ... FAMILYSEARCH FOR DUMMIES? ....I have learned a couple of tricks recently, that I knew nothing about. Unfortunately, not to do with marriages

Another 'Oh Dear'
Bye bye Bishopwearmouth!!
The record is pretty precise about ages and they just don't match the birth dates I have, on official records, for Jane and Robert.
Hope you have spotted this post Julie; before you waste time on Robert and William???
