I can't thank you enough for drawing my attention to this site Sam.

I've been searching high and low to find out why my gt gt grandfather was in Brixton prison in 1871 including subscribing to Times Online without success.

A few minutes going through the Ipswich Journal and I discover he was guilty of stealing wool and, while in jail pending trial, tried to commit suicide!!!!

So many thanks for that Sam.

Thanks for the site info,
Had a look and found a relation I have been looking for 3years, with good reports in more than one paper.
The Report has answered my question I have been asking others

Article heading - Suicide of a Lunatic
'jumped down an old coalpit. When got out he was quiet dead'

Also found an advertisement for the sale of a Farm, Land and Outbuildings - owned again by an ancester in my tree

Good site if you want to read each article - I have only managed to read to date 170 No. articles of 7985 No.
Hope the access lasts.

Thanks again
Ann

It's still working. I've missed reading these papers since the old trial finished. They really bring ancestors to life!
