Found a male Parish born the quarter before Lily and Thomas married,(thinking outside the box).
I had trouble finding someone and then found he was born with a different surname to an unmarried mother.
Just no sign of a Gordon Besley anywhere around that time.

Sylvia Report 2 Apr 2008 20:08

Sylvia

Sylvia Report 2 Apr 2008 20:10

what does it mean when they say bann?

Eric

Eric Report 2 Apr 2008 20:14

The Thomas Besley who married Elizabeth Vearncombe was born about 1879. He was 21 when he married. The Parish Record shows him as being a Carpenter. He was living with his mother in law in the 1901 census aged 22. I could not find any other marriage for Thomas Besley in that part of Somerset. Banns simply means that the church announce the forthcoming marriage in the 3 weeks before the event so that anyone who knows of a reason why they shouldn't marry can object. The alternative is a special licence.

sorry confusion setting in again!!!! thomas 1884 had a brother called fred but he would have been too young to marry in 1900.....?

A Thomas Besley married Elizabeth Chiplin in the Wellington Records area in 1871 (according to freebmd). I dont have access to the parish records for this period.
