The bit about click to see others on page is not relevant to your search...........it would have been better if the poster had deleted it.

There are several births on every page of the GRO register............that's all it refers to

We're talking about people who are likely living here and there are some fine lines when it comes to what should be posted in public.

Joanne already had the info about the 1939 birth, as she said, so there's no need for those details to be posted here -- and even if she didn't, it's something that should be sent by private message. Everybody else here can easily find it if they want it. Cathy, would you delete it please? We don't even know whether that is the person in question, and if it isn't, it's personal info about somebody who isn't even connected to this and doesn't know he's being talked about.

Joanne, you may have to send for some random-looking certificates -- but the one you do need to get is the George Hubbard + May McCornick marriage I posted on page 1 (which you confirmed by private message is your grandparents -- note though that her name is McCorNick, not McCorMick, and that is quite important).

That will tell you whether either of them had been married before, and, if May had been, what her first husband's surname was. It's possible that some of these children were hers by a previous marriage, for instance. It's possible that she had a child or children with George Hubbard before marrying him. What the couple's status was at the time of their marriage is important info.

There is a May McCornick birth in West Derby in 1909, but that's the only one. That one's possible. But only the marriage certificate will tell (her age, father's name and marital status).

Start there. You can order the certificate at

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Okay, I have a theory. The Hubbard-McCornick marriage was in Birkenhead in 1943. Anyone who wants to have a look, check for McCornick births in Birkenhead in 1941 and 1942. ;) (And note one double registraton - edit - or as I said by PM to Joanne, note the two Ronnies ... I couldn't resist ...). There are no marriages to match the two surnames for two of those births. Not sure what it might mean, but would like to see the Hubbard-McCornick marriage certificate just to be sure!

Will PM you the details, Joanne.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 16 Jul 2010 16:22

I think I have indeed solved it. Nah -- I know it. ;)

Look for the marriage of Marie L to the surname of the Birkenhead birth, in 1963. (Using "exact search" at Ancestry lets you search for marriages and births by given name plus spouse's surname or mother's surname, without specifying the person's own surname.)

And then births with that mother's surname and the surname we thought was a given name (see the Birkenhead births). ;)

Will PM details to Joanne.

Now it's just a matter of finding them.

Note that I'm also sending Joanne what could be less good news.

Cathy Report 16 Jul 2010 16:52

Janey, I am a confused as to why you think I should remove a 1939 birth

record when you have posted a 1943 marriage record?

I also see that Joanne said she "believed" her uncle was born in 1939 in

Great Yarmouth so I assumed she didn't know for certain.....

I was obviously wrong and will remove it.

Flick

Flick Report 16 Jul 2010 16:59

People married in 1943 are extremely unlikely to be alive today.......on the other hand, someone born in 1939 most probably is.

Flick Report 16 Jul 2010 17:01

Well done, Janey................how on earth did Joanne not know that?

Have found and PMed marriages for three daughters and am checking BT on line and 192.com ...

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 16 Jul 2010 17:06

Cathy -- whether it was the correct or incorrect person, the possibility of them being living is the main thing.

These threads are found by internet search engines. Granted, I, for one, am saying some rather personal things here about the people. But I haven't actually given the name of the person in question. No one googling his name (or his children's names -- and I'm going to alter the wife's name now) will find this thread and the discussion of the family.

It actually might be wise for Joanne to delete the thread (and the one on Chat) *after a few days*, when everyone who had posted in it has a chance to see her thanks for their help. ;)

I generally oppose deleting threads because of all the info that might be needed for further searching or could help someone else -- in the case of ancestor hunts. For living people hunts, I think it's probably best in most cases.

Mille mercis, Flick. ;)

I think Joanne was young at the time and he was just "Uncle Rusty", Dad's brother!

Cathy

Cathy Report 16 Jul 2010 17:45

Flick,

There are a lot of people of 85 and older living today....some of them

come on these boards so I wouldn't write them off just yet!

Kind regards,

Cathy

JaneyCanuck Report 16 Jul 2010 18:06

Cathy, let's not argue ...

The marriage I posted was Joanne's own grandparents (and I believe we know they are deceased). That's a little different from either a stranger or another non-direct relation who isn't aware of the discussion here, particularly when it involves rather sensitive matters like divorce (and we don't know whether the first wife is living, the children certainly are, etc.).

Name: May Hubbard

(Yes, even the marriage info of deceased persons can be somewhat sensitive in relation to living people -- another reason I have not put Rusty's name here.)

I've found one daughter with her husband on the ER to 2006, and a couple of related names in the next generation, but that's the extent of it so far, and I'm a bit boggled so I'm taking a break.

Have directed Joanne for emailing Whirley for an ER lookup for that record -- Joanne, ask her to check for a more recent listing for any of those names too! -- and suggested Facebook, particularly for the fairly uncommon name of that daughter's husband.

Joanne hasn't read any of my several PMs yet, but hopefully she didn't give up to the extent of not checking her mail!

Flick

Flick Report 16 Jul 2010 22:33

Funny how you only got uppity with me Cathy........it wasn't I who asked you to delete your posting .

Janey

Do you think this man was actually any relation to Joanne's father?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 16 Jul 2010 22:48

Yes -- I put it in a nutshell to Rambling Rose as --

Rusty's mother married Joanne's father's father.

They were Joanne's father's parents.

Rusty was Joanne's father's half-brother -- common mother.

From what I can tell!

I was hoping that when the thread popped to the top of My Threads just now it meant Joanne had returned. But PMs are still unread. Maybe she'll have time to check in on the weekend.

Me, it's almost 6 pm here, end of work week, hot and humid and horrible as ever, I'm heading home!

If you have any "h"s to add to that, feel free. ;)

Flick,

I didn't get upperty with anyone, but actually when I addressed my first

question to Janey you answered and then when I addressed my next

question to you, Janey answered!

A bit like the Two Ronnies " It's goodnight from me, and it's goodnight from him"

And it's a very good morning from me :-))

Kind regards,

Cathy

Joanne -- this horrible, antique, mismanaged website is refusing to let me see my inbox, but it tells me I have new messages.

Aha. Even though my email keeps telling me I have new mail here at GR from myself, I see when I open one of the notification messages from GR that there's a message from you.

I do also hope to see a message in this thread thanking everybody who at least *tried* to help you!

I hope that when I eventually get to see it, it will be saying that you agree, the mystery of your uncle is solved!

"Rusty" because of his red hair was what I was getting at back on page one when I said I suspected it had to do with something other than his name. ;)
