Hi all.

I'm trying to find more details about my grandfather Herbert Peacock who was born around 1884 in Russia ( I believe) - and who was the British Consul in Krasnoyarsk in Siberia in around 1916.

He was also working for the Revillon Frere fur company.

He and his wife died in 1923 in Yokohama in the Great Kanto Earthquake.

I don't know his wife's name, but I think it was 'Lucille'. She was French.

Thanks for any help with this.

do you know anything more

Any idea of who his parents were?

How did you get back to him.

Where was your parents= (his son or daughter?) born?

Do you have your parent's birth certificate ........... that will show the mother's maiden name, and thus we might be able to find the marriage of Herbert and "Lucille"

Have you tried googling his name?

Hello Sylvia. Thanks for replying.

His parents were Dimitri Rudolph Peacock and Yevgeniya (nee Kozminykh).

Dimitri Rudolph Peacock was appointed as British Consul General in Odessa, southern Ukraine in 1891. He died in Odessa a year later in 1892. I think he was murdered by a political assassin, but I'm not entirely sure.

He had six children, of which Herbert Peacock was one. Herbert Peacock was my mother's father.

Regards,
Allan Munro-Smith

I've Googled his name thoroughly.

I don't have my parent's birth certificate. My mother was born in Krasnoyarsk.

I know these things from my mother, and also from the book (written in 1923) - 'Two Centuries of Fur-Trading, 1723 - 1923. Romance of the Revillon Family. by Marcel Sexe.

was Herbert educated in England?

WestwardHo

WestwardHo Report 1 Feb 2011 07:10

Well done, Lynne! :)

That's definitely him.

Tatiana's father was Ilya Bakunin who I believe was the brother of Mikhail Aleksandrovich Bakunin, the Anarchist.

A grand-niece of Bakunin was Tatiana Ossorguine-Bakounine who lived in Paris as a Russian emigre. She wrote a book : 'L'Emigration Russe en France... '

Sylvia in Canada - I don't know if Herbert was educated in England. My mother never once mentioned he had been educated in England.

Yes Lynne - Henry and Elias Herbert are definitely brothers. Elizabeth Peacock I didn't know of.

Demetrius Rudolph Peacock managed a farming estate in Mashuk, Russia for the owner, Mikhail Ivanovich Petrunkevich - who was married to a Yelizaveta.

Demetrius's father was Charles Peacock (born c1837) who around 1860 arrived in Russia from Lancashire to fill a job vacancy as a farm manager.

His father was a Lancashire farmer, also named Charles Peacock, born c1814.

Thank you Lynne.

There should be two more siblings besides Charles, Henry, Elias Herbert, and Elizabeth.

I would like to know the name of Elias Herbert's wife, who was French. She began the French line of my family tree. Her sister's name was Madeleine.

Allan

Hi, Allan.
I have found this and wonder if it is somehow connected? He was born in Russia and Eliah could be wrongly written Elias? If it is right then it gives the name of his wife - Odilla Sarrot?

Lynne! You're a marvel!

Thank you so much.

I knew I had an Uncle 'Willie' in Canada who was my mother's brother. He had a son, Danny or Daniel - but that's all.

You've also discovered Mary Peacock and others that I never knew of.

I'm now going to add these names to the huge chart I've been making of my family tree.

It's great that you've also unturfed my mother's mother's name, as this now allows me to start tracing my French Connection.

My mother's cousins were Simone and Lucien, living respectively in the village of Sos in southern France, and in Agen in the province of Lot-et-Garonne.

I'll be chasing these up.

I'm hoping to be able to present our family tree to my 36yo niece who doesn't know I'm doing this.

The last time she visited me she asked about her family tree, and I gave her a miserably poor little chart that I had made up years ago - full of errors and very skinny on information.

After she had left, I felt I had let her down badly. She deserves better than that. She herself had studied hard to get a doctorate in science, and I felt I should at least make the effort to present her with a halfway decent Family Tree chart.

Thanks heaps, Lynne!

Allan
