As Ginny has said, delete this thread and edit the heading on your other thread. Then add an Edit to your first posting on the other thread to summarise what has been found and say what further information you are seeking. Otherwise helpers will go off looking for information that has already been found.

If you leave the other thread on it is useful to people just starting to research their families. It lets them see some of the pitfalls and also illustrates how important it is to check thoroughly every source of information - never trust anyone else's research and where possible look at as many primary sources that are available to you.

Ginny and I are just so pleased that you're on the right track now.

Eve

Where does it say he stayed with his sister Annie Black? I havent found anything to suggest this?

The first mention of Annie Black was when I found the WW1 record for you and it gives her address as London

Do you have some other 'solid' sources of information please?

Oh, Eve I can't believe that you have deleted the other thread with all those census records on it and now LadyKira has spent time looking for them!

The next thing someone will be posting the details again about the WRONG Vincent Brown who is the same age and went to Canada and also enlisted there!

So, for the benefit of the helpers who did not see the other thread.

Eve's Vincent is NOT Vincent James Brown, the Yorkshire man who married Myrtle!!

Ginny, that was good of you to re-post the details from his enlistment papers and that 1901 census. Thank you so much for the time and effort you have put into this.

Rootgatherer

I'm still looking but Eve dosent seem to want to answer any questions ;)

Eve we need to ask you questions and sometimes have to go all 'about the houses' before we can come up with something solid

If you don't answer, we can't help you

Right I have found a marriage for an 'Annie Brown', but at the moment Eve, it's only speculation that it's her

Marriages Mar 1906 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BLACK John Cockermouth 10b 809
BROWN Annie Cockermouth 10b 809

If this is her then we need to find her in 1901, maybe under the name Brown but she could have been married before

We are all trying to help you Eve but I'm gonna call it a day if you dont help us

I can see this is not going very far, Idont have any more info to tell you, thanks to all

LadyKira Report 14 May 2010 11:38

What do you mean it isn't going far?

You know more today than you did last week.

Yhis is something that may take years to get fll information but as more records are put on line you will eventually find answers.

You have been asked various questions to help us identify your person but we are dealing with common surnames.

You will need to compare addresses names etc from every piece of documentation you find.

We enjoy a challenge but by its nature research takes time.

Eve

It's OK if you dont have the answer to the many questions you are being asked but we need you to answer them even if the answer is I dont know

This way you will keep your thread going and the more people that see the thread the more heads we have working for you

As LK has said, these things take time and suddenly just click into place. It may be that the info we need isnt online yet but that doesnt mean it wont be in the future

It took me about 12 months to find my family in the US and now I am in regular contact with my cousins!
