Find Ancestors

Hi all,
I've had a thread going on this line of my family before but it's all got too complicated and no info was found for the woman I'm after so I thought I'd start a separate thread.

My great great grandmother Sarah Emily Eaton Barrett was born c1872. Unfortunately I have no idea where she was born and I have searched endlessly for her for a while.

Sarah Barrett married George Henry Studzor Marsh at St Thomas' Church in Seaforth, Lancashire on 19th June 1913. Her previous address was 9 Hornby Street, Seaforth (she was 41 and a spinster). Her father was Michael Barrett (deceased)

George Marsh was born Australia c1864. He'd previously been married to Eliza Wells, born Ireland. George had had an affair with Sarah while married to Eliza and this resulted in my great grandmother Grace Gertrude Barrett (21st March 1904) and Hilda Evelyn Barrett (1907). In 1911, Hilda and Grace are living with George and Eliza at 21 Wellington Street, Waterloo, Liverpool. Sarah is nowhere to be seen.

Any lead on Sarah would be gratefully received as I have no clue about her whatsoever.

Unfortunately, by starting a new thread, you invite people to repeat the same work, even if it was futile the first time around. Even more so the second.

In that thread you say:

I've posted about my great grandmother before but I have only just found her birth. Until this afternoon, we all knew her as Grace Gertrude Marsh (born 21st March 1904 in Liverpool) and on her marriage certificate to Charles Pike (born 1898) in 1926 it states she was Grace Gertrude Marsh, aged 21 and a spinster living at 34 Rosalind Street. I then searched for a marriage between barrett and marsh and bingo, Sarah E Barrett married George Henry Marsh in West Derby in 1913. So none of us knew my great grandmother was actually born a barrett and presumably took on her step-father's name after her mother married (not even her own children, my nan was shocked when we told her)."


... so that wasn't the first.

Adding here, just for the background info.

Possibly the "Eaton" came from her mother.

And the location matches perfectly with the birth Dee found!

"Celleric" is a ridiculous name, of course. The GRO index image is a typewritten transcription of what I think was probably a handwritten index at the time - ? In any event, lots of room for errors, on the certificate, in the transfer of the info to the index ...

I wondered whether it might have been some version of Selina. No luck with that so far ...

It's possible that Michael Barrett died before the 1881 and Sarah's mother remarried, and Sarah appears in subsequent censuses under her stepfather's surname.

I would get the marriage and birth certificate in question and see what they say.

Meanwhile, what was Michael Barrett's occupation, if any, on Sarah's marriage certificate?

Your Sarah's middle name was Emily, and she had a daughter named Gertrude.

Thank you so much! This looks a distinct possibility! I've been searching for some kind of birth so I could buy the certificates but haven't had any luck at all. I'll buy the certs and hope something comes of them.

As for the occupation of Sarah's father, it just says deceased, as it does for George Marsh's father, no occupations at all.
