On behalf of a dear friend I am looking for Rosemary A. Thompson. Last living in Herne Bay Kent. Her husband Mark C. Thompson was a fireman.
Rosemary was and still maybe a nurse in the NHS.
Rosemary's parents were Gwillym and Dinah Taylor who were living in the west Midlands at least until 2015.
Sheila would love to hear from Rosemary her child hood friend.
Judy :-)

Have you done any research?

If she isn’t a member of GR, she won’t see your post………

When was the last contact?

Have you tried looking for them on Electoral Rolls?

Rosemary seems to be about 71, I would have thought there won’t be too many nurses of that age.

ArgyllGran Report 30 Sep 2024 00:49

How long ago was she living in Herne Bay?

Are you sure of her year of birth? I don't see a 1954 birth of a Rosemary A Taylor in England/Wales/Scotland.

Her parents married in Totnes in 1951, and in 1954 they are on the ER for Tynewydd, Monmouth

Her father died in 2022, still in Solihull.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 30 Sep 2024 09:22

There is NO record of a marriage for Rosemary Taylor/ MarkThompson in England/Wales

Dinah’s name when marrying was Williams

Perhaps Rosemary was adopted?

Incidentally, no record on freebmd of the father other than his marriage

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 30 Sep 2024 09:25

There was a Rosemary A Thompson in Walsall on ER for 2013, but the man named Mark at the same address did not share her surname

Zoopla has NO 'sold' info for the address

You say your friend and Rosemary knew each other in childhood - where was that?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 4 Oct 2024 18:43

As mentioned, her father married in Totnes in 1951; in 1954 was in Monmouthshire; died in 2022 in Solihull.

To add -
he was born in Totnes, in 1931 - name spelled GwilyN on birth record.

Not that it helps find Rosemary.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 4 Oct 2024 21:20

Gwilym (one 'l') on marriage, which is the usual spelling.

I can only think, as I suggested above, that Rosemary was adopted. If she is a natural child of the marriage, she wasn’t born in this country….nor did she marry here to anyone with the surname Thompson

Feedback essential, but OP hasn’t responded to PM sent 30th Sept, which has been opened.

Thanks for all your help.
Dinah,Rosemary's mother had relatives in Northern Ireland.
Rosemary had a sister called Sharon who we believe married a surgeon
In NI called Ashley - sadly no surname.
My friends parents lived in Yattendon, Berkshire and were God parents to
Rosemary who We believe was eldest daughter born around 1954/55.
Sharon was 3 years younger. There was another child that was born but did not survive
That was buried in Yattendon churchyard. My friends parents moved from Yattendon
In 1956. Her father was a gardener on the estate.
Relatives on her father's side came from Darlington, a small village near Totnes, Devon.
She had a cousin called Quainton.

Rosemary and Mark had 2 daughters called Kate and Gemma.
My friend lost contact around 2016/7 from Berne Bay address.

I have tried various avenues of research but had no luck in tracing Rosemary. I reached out to a nurse called Rosemary Thompson in Devon but had no response, thinking she may have moved back to her father's relatives.
I have tried BT directories and 192.com no luck

Rosemary was not adopted for sure.
My friend says she married Mark but I don't find any proof of marriage.
Dinah and her husband moved to Solihull.
My friend lived in High Wycombe and her parents now deceased and for sometime used t to holiday with the family when the families were children.

This is about all the information I have.
Many thanks for all your ideas and hellp.

Have you tried looking for the daughters?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 6 Oct 2024 14:18

Yattendon was in Wokingham Registration district until 1974

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 6 Oct 2024 14:19

Have you checked the Herne Bay address on Zoopla?

Have you looked for info on freebmd?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 6 Oct 2024 14:40

Assuming Rosemary's children were born in England or Wales, there's only one birth record for a Kate Thompson, with mmn Taylor - in 1986.

There's a 2002 marriage in the same district, which may or not be hers.
That couple were still in the same area in 2013, per ER.

There are three births of girls named Gemma Thompson, with mmn Taylor.
1981, 1984, and 1989.
None of them is in the same district as Kate's birth, but the one in 1984 was in Monmouthshire, if that's relevant.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 6 Oct 2024 14:49

Has your friend moved since the last contact?

If not, Rosemary would be able to contact her - if she so wished.

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 6 Oct 2024 14:54

The 1986 birth was in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Added: the Yattendon estate covers a vast area so it is possible that the family were not based on the village itself. They could even have been living in North Hampshire or south Oxfordshire.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 8 Oct 2024 14:40

There are no child deaths registered in Wokingham district for surname Taylor between 1950 and 1967

There is one in 1970, but the MMN on birth was not Williams

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 8 Oct 2024 14:56

The registration district would have been Reading & Wokingham ( confirmed by checking a couple of family birth registrations). Reading makes much more sense when you know where the Yattendon Estate is.

ErikaH Report 8 Oct 2024 15:09

Registration County : Berkshire.
Created : 1.4.1974 (out of Wokingham, Reading and Wallingford registration districts).
Abolished : 1.4.1998 (divided between Wokingham, Reading and West Berkshire registration districts).
Sub-districts : Reading; Wokingham.
GRO volumes : 19 (1974–92).
District number : 320 (1974–98).

Note 'creation' date

nameslessone Report 8 Oct 2024 16:25

You were looking at 1950-1967 (14.40) Birth registrations for the 1960’s show as Reading on freebm and the GRO.

Sometimes knowing an area makes all the difference.

Added. I then looked at deaths for a diferent family. Before 1974 they are shown as Reading after
they are shown as Reading/Wokingham.

Added further: all a bit pointless as a child born in Yattendon would probably have been registered in Newbury.
