Welcome to the boards, Rebecca.

I'm afraid it's not likely that any relatives will see your post here.

Have a look at "Search all member trees", under "Search" at top right of this page. Search for names of people on your tree, and if any other GR members have those people in their trees, click on "Find out more" and send them a message.
(No guarantee of replies, however.)

If you want to try to contact Susan, who started this thread, click on her name in green at the top of one of her posts, and send her a message, which she will receive if she has kept GR informed of any change in her email address..
Again, no guarantee of a reply, for any number of possible reasons..

Thankyou I am aware this is old and no idea if Susan is still active. Only just learned her fathers name William Eaton but do not have dates of birth of most my ancestors and family members so not working with much. Appreciate any guidance. I tried 23 and me a few years ago but no matches came back.

DNA has its uses, but you can often find out dates of birth, etc from documentary records online - depending on how long ago your family members lived.

FreeBMD, Family Search, GRO and others are free sites and very useful within certain limits.

If you need more info, just give us (members of GR) some names, dates, and places, and we can probably start you off in the right direction.
Most of us have subs to Ancestry and/or FindMyPast, which give much more information, and we'll be happy to look things up for you.

As AG suggested send Susan a message.

23 and me doesn’t have a very big data base. The largest one is Ancestry. Ancestry do not allow results from other companies to be uploaded but most other companies do allow Ancestry results to be uploaded..

The only way to find a date of birth is usually through the birth certificate which you have to buy.

Thankyou, I need to ask alive family members for dates of birth where possible. My family are not talkers and this stuff is just unknown and seems a hard ask.

My paternal grandmother died when my father was two also so had just begun work on that side of things and didn’t get very far with what I had there either. Just signed up to this site for a month and will see what I can find here. I can’t seem to see Susan’s family tree here but have sent a message on the off chance she still has access to the same email after all this time. Responses are much appreciated

GR is not the best site if you're searching for records - birth, marriages, deaths, censuses, etc.
Ancestry and/or FMP are what the helpers on here use mostly.

Also, you won't be able to see Susan's full tree on GR unless she gives you permission via the site.

From a quick look at "Search all member trees", I see that she has Susan Staples (1966 Middlesbrough), and Maureen Staples (1945 Cleveland) on her GR tree.

Thankyou yes Maureen staples is still alive but doesn’t recall further info about William eatons family I wonder if Susan is a child of his sibling

Really appreciate the replies and offers of help, trying to piece together what I know and confirm it before I send others on a wild goose chase

Rebecca has also been asking about the Eaton family on the Lost Credits thread on General.

Thank you everyone for all the assistance and advice you have all given to Rebecca.

I haven't visited this site for some considerable time, but as per your suggestions an email message was received and I have acted accordingly. I am now in direct contact with Rebecca and will supply all the relevant information I possess.

It is wonderful to know that Genes Reunited 's records and message (however ancient!) are still being read and acted upon by genuine researchers who are anxious to help others!!

Very many thanks to everyone concerned.

Kind regards
Susan
