Any one who has fish in their pond should monitor the amount of frogspawn and remove some. The dear little fish can gorge themselves on tadpoles and die as a result - this happened to us a few years back. Each year now my husband takes at least 2 buckets of spawn to the village pond. Ann

Time for an update I think. Well I still have loads of adult frogs in the pond, but they are now joined by loads of little ones too. There are certainly enough for a football team, so if you're reading Lynda I am naming after the Chelsea squad. Not so much Didier Drogba as Diddy Frogba but you get the idea :-) The cat now spends all day chasing them around, but thankfully doesn't actually seem to hurt them. I'm sure they wish she'd get tired of it though ! Rick.

JEAN.

Good news ! Killed off the algae again yesterday and can now see through the water :-) There are quite a few tadpoles in there still and they are getting really big. Still not growing legs though. There are also about half a dozen adult frogs.

I have a wild life pond in my garden and i just leave it to nature no filter ,just plenty of weed and pond plants water stays crystal clear and it is heaving not only with tadpoles but newts as well, they leave the pond in the Autumn and return in the spring to spawn just like frogs but they lay there eggs on the leaves of the plants .I had so many last year i gave a lot to the local school who had just made a wild life pond .Looks as if i am over run again this year ,but i love it . Rick

Rick Report 17 May 2004 20:28

Well I saw two tadpoles today. One was dead on top of the leaf of a water lily and the other was swimming around with no legs still. Think a lot must have died, cos there's no sign of the big numbers that hatched out. At least it will make it easier to think of names for them ;-) The good news is there were 7 adult frogs lounging around in there too. Seemed like a good idea, so I got the sun lounger out ! Rick.

Looked for tadpoles today, but could only see one ! Still legless. Rick.
