I have just read in the paper that the police have been called in to the Hotel in Docklands where Tottenham players stayed prior to their match at West Ham yesterday. Environmental officers have also taken samples of food to test for contamination. I don't know much about food poisoning so my question is how likely is it, given that 10 players went down with it, is it to be food poisioning?. And also, putting all prejudices aside. If it is food poisoning what do you think Spurs could or should do about it?

Sounds like food poisoning to me Were there any Arsenal players hanging around? Trifley

Julia Report 8 May 2006 13:17

I dot understand why the police are involced unless they suspect deliberate poisening, it is a matter for H&S to look into and then try and decide, seems to me (as a non spurs fan) that this really is a petty and spiteful thing to do 'IF' it was deliberate

LOL I think in hindsight it was possibly a mistake to hire Mrs Wenger catering company to provide the food.!!! No only joking. Foul play hasn't been ruled out. They are questioning the staff to find out if it is likely. I'm not a sore loser. We lost. That;s fine. But it has financial implications for the club as we are no longer eligible for the champions league, which would have netted us about 10 million pounds. Not to say we wouldn't have lost without the bug, but it MAY have been a factor. If it is food poisoning and deliberate, what course of action should be taken? Match to be replayed? If it is non deliberate food poisoning, then what?

Muffy, All sorts of conspiracy theories going about. Must admit it does seem a bit suspect when you think how carefully football clubs look after their player's food before games. Ecky thump you don't think it could have been done on purpose do you? If so who could possibly have had a motive ????? LOL Jean x.

Unknown Report 8 May 2006 13:23

LOL Jean I was too upset yesterday to really think it through, and I don't want to come across as a sore loser, but if it is deliberate food poisoning, I think a match re play is in order? Obviously I'm biased, so would like to know what everyone else thinks. Be honest though, even if you support Ar****l how would you feel if the roles were reversed and it was your team?

Jane Report 8 May 2006 13:30

Muffy, we have no problem re-playing the game...but not before Saturday!! And with all our missing players too! lol!!

Unknown Report 8 May 2006 13:32

LOL Jane. Don't blame you at all for that. Probably won't happen anyhow. It just strikes me as wrong if it is sabotage for result to stand. However, not too fair on West Ham as well I must admit.

Dawnieher3headaches Report 8 May 2006 13:33

thought Martin Jol was very good in his after match interview yesterday, and you can understand West Ham not wanting a reply this week but for that many players to be ill when they are all in the same place something must of happened. And yes I am a Spurs fan but if the shoe was on the other foot Arsenal would of made more of a fuss by now..

Unknown Report 8 May 2006 13:50

Dawnie There are a few teams that I won't mention that would've refused to play and been allowed to get away with it. We should've made more of a fuss. Ridiculous to have to field a team suffering from, well if not food poisoning, then something really horrid. What chance did we have.?

Oddball2 Report 8 May 2006 13:52

Muffy Not a lot and I can think of a few that would of made more of a fuss but then these foreigners are like that. lol

Unknown Report 8 May 2006 13:53

Steve ;0P Be honest, as a gooner, what would you expect your team to do about it if the roles had been reversed?

Dawnieher3headaches

Dawnieher3headaches Report 8 May 2006 13:54

Steve all your foreign players will feel at home then against foreign teams. Shame English clubs don't have more English players

Oddball2

Oddball2 Report 8 May 2006 14:01

Muffy i do agree,we would be really p*****d of Dawnie if there were that many good players in Britain all english teams would field eleven englishmen, just look at the fuss over Rooneys injury and trying to find a replacement for him, most foriegn teams have every position covered in depth Steve from Somerset

I am not a football fan at all but I think it is scandolous that any of you would suggest that a serious football fan would consider doing anything so dangerous as to poison food. If the food was poisoned or poison introduced in some other way then the person/s responsible could not consider themselves fans. The same with hooligans at matches, they are not fans just thugs whoever they say they support. Vivienne xx

Unknown Report 8 May 2006 14:23

Hi Linen Lady I don't think anyone has seriously suggested that it was a 'fan' or anyone else that did the poisoning if indeed it was poisoning. There must be a suggestion of foul play though for the police to have been called.? It may not even be deliberate , no-one knows yet, but no-one is pointing the finger at anyone. xx

Food poisoning at at 5* Hotel? Surely the staff should be better trained then that. It does sound a bit suspect. The depths some people sink to.

Vivienne... there is so much money involved in football today. Some people would go to any lengths to secure European football. Jean x.
