Dorothy. Congratulations if you helped choose the Wee Waif last year. It was an excellent choice. Easy to find (for most), plenty of parking space, The room they allocated to us, the conservatory, was perfect as we could choose whether to sit inside or out on the patio. The food and service was good too. len

Is that a definite date? I would try and arrange a journey and visit I have to make around that date and venue if so.

Diana agreed that I can paste this message on this board. Can anyone living in Berks help with my request on records board or here! I am trying to find a photograph of the church and whether there is a gravestone Please. Louie or Louisa Gates was my grandmother she was 23years of age and was married and had two children 1 (my dad) was 2years on 27th Aug 1918 and his brother was 4years. This is a little from her inquest report AND ON THAT DAY SUNDAY 18TH AUGUST 1918 WHEN SHE FAILED TO RETURN TO HER ROOMS, HER HUSBANDS MOTHER AND LOUISA'S AUNT WENT TO HER ROOMS AND FOUND A LETTER ADDRESSED “ DEAR LOUIE”, ARRANGING A MEETING AT SUNNINGDALE TRAIN STATION FROM A SERVICEMAN IN THE CANADIAN ARMY NAMED V****. HER BODY WAS FOUND FIVE WEEKS LATER BY A FARM LABOURER WHO WAS CUTTING FERN; IT WAS IN A WOOD ON THE CHARTERS ESTATE. THE WOOD WAS ENCLOSED ON THE ROAD SIDE BY A WOODEN FENCE ON THE LAND SIDE IT WAS OPEN, THE BODY COULD NOT BE SEEN FROM THE ROAD, V**** WAS QUESTIONED BY THE POLICE BUT SAID IN HIS STATEMENT “HE HAD ARRIVED LATE AT THE STATION AND THAT LOUISA WAS NOT THERE SO HE LEFT”. LOUISA WAS FOUND IN A WOODED AREA LESS THAN ONE MILE FROM THE STATION—SHE HAD BEEN GAGGED WITH HER HANDKERCHIEF AND STRANGLED WITH HER OWN MACKINTOSH BELT, HER HANDBAG WAS MISSING. (Valuable items of jewellery were still with the body) THE POSTMORTEM EXAMINATION WAS CARRIED OUT IN THE OUTHOUSE AJOINING THE “NAG’S HEAD” PUBLIC HOUSE (by Robert Donaldson MD) Pathologist at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Do you know the Nag's Head is it still a public house! CAROLX

Carol, I Pm'd you earlier, regarding the burial look-up. I can do it for you on Sunday, if you would like me too? Also, Ive never heard of madman's wood, but I do know that there is a Charters school in Sunningdale. And I think there is also a Charters Road, but im not sure? I could have a little looky round of Sunday for a madman's wood if you'd like? I have just googled the nags head in Sunningdale, and there is a pub of that name, about 15 minutes walk from Sunningdale train station, opposite Sunningdale church. Jodi x
