Am tired of telling gdau re bargains in charity shops, keep telling her to check in her area for designer numbers (Wimbledon) and works Greenwich but has she listened to gma???? Told her as long as she can wash/dryclean, buy it!!!! I did finally say to her which suit of gdads do you prefer - looks good in both gma and then I told her that he had purchased both some 8 years ago for about £18 the two - brandnew and wool! He had outgrown his suits and was going to tailors when I spotted one, asked them to hold, dragged him over and he bought both! Being retired and a golfer rarely wears a suit but there are those occasions.

You might be right Holly. Come to think of it, there can’t be too many Lincoln green sweaters with white reindeer all over them.

Morning all
A few years ago I would not think of going in a charity shop
then one opened very near to me
I had a clear out and took over hundreds of books, then lots of my grandsons clothes (some never worn) that he had grown out of.Next on the list was toys he had finished with, all in good condition
While there I spotted a coat with fur lined hood. Not only the hood but all through was fur lined right down to the 3/4 hem line
Cost me a £5 note.
It is the warmest coat I have ever warn
Was I glad I got it when that cold and snow hit us
Since then I have got a couple of designer bits that look unworn for £2 each
Yes,there are some very good things in these shops

It certainly does Holly …………… that and the rest of my collection !

I always wear one of them to social functions in the run up to Christmas.

However some people are not always as discrete as you ……….. that’s why you’ll always find me in the kitchen at parties !

Hello Fellow Bargain Hunters, I am back in the fold now. Thank you Prickles Babes. Just had an emergency overnighter at the big house, at the behest of my consultant. I am a martyr to the Morphine LOLOL
Now back on the boards until about 6.30, when I normally go off for the night.

Today's bargain was an as-new shirt for teenage grandson, -still in cellophane wrapping.
Well worth £2.50 !

Today OH had a letter from British Heart Foundation thanking him for goods donated in October and adding Gift Aid. To date they have raised over £122 so well worth taking them into the shop.

Hi Julia, how goes your gardening? I know when I look out of my bedroom window in the morning,if I can see you pottering about in your garden, that it is going to bee a nice day.

I too, love charity shops,my idea of a good day out, is to catch a bus to the far end of a "posh" district, and trawl all the charity shops back into town.

Your letter reminded me of something that happened to me way back in the sixties, not a charity shop though.

In a very posh ladies outfitters was a beautiful coat in the spring sale for £10. I lusted over it for weeks,I hadn't bought a decent winter coat for years.

I managed to save enough houskeeping money and finally went to buy it.

As I entered the shop with my rag tag crew of tatty offspring,a snooty shop assistant glided over as if on wheels with an expression on her face like she had stepped in something nasty.

"Can I help you MODOM" she forced herself to say.

" Oh yes please, may I try on that gray tweed overcoat in the window?"

"MODOM" she intoned," That would never fit YOU,IT IS ONLY A SIZE 10"

" Well,I do think that I am a 12, but would still like to try, please"

With a barely disguised HUFF,she retrieved it from the window, and stared agog when it fitted perfectly!

That was probably the best £10 that I ever spent,I wore that coat until it dropped to bits.
