Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 Dec 2020 22:29

I saw in the news you would be in tier 4 mandy and Vera too. I think we have just missed it but it dos'nt really affect us as we don't go out anyway as I have said before. I was wondering about Les up the top of our driveway as he ususally has his son down for Christmas from London. The son comes by train ans Les picks him up from Exeter.

I made 19 sausage rolls and 21 mince pies. There is'nt that many now.........

I must go up the docs in the morning for our scripts so if I don't post too early will you remind me please as I am not sure what time they close the surgery.

Good morning all. IS THIS TOO EARLY MEL TO REMIND YOU TO GO FOR YOUR SCRIPS?

3 degrees outside, clear sky and stars, hope there is not a frost as I wanted to cover a couple of plants but it was pouring with rain when I went to bed. Hope it is not too icy for those travelling to work, or that the roads are not as flooded as they were yesterday,

SuffolkVera Report 24 Dec 2020 10:26

You were early birds this morning AnnG and Mandy.

It rained all day yesterday and all night. During the night it was coming down so hard it kept bringing on security lights at the front of our neighbours garage and the side of ours. They all shine in our bedroom so it was like trying to sleep in a disco. OH had no trouble but I gave up at 2 am and went upstairs to a spare bedroom. It’s dull and dry at the moment but there is a bitter cold wind blowing.

I don’t have a lot to do today. I’m just straining the guava gin I made for daughter but I don’t think it’s been very successful. Instead of the gin taking on the colour and flavour of the guavas, the fruit has absorbed the gin and gone mushy.

I hope Frank is OK.

Going to make a cuppa now and then decide what to do with my day.

MEL, HAVE YOU GOT THOSE SCRIPS YET?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Dec 2020 10:32

Well I don't know what happened but I did post again around 9am and it is not there. It is probably lurking on another thread somewhere. I did go back to bed Mandy and Vera and woke about 8am, had a shower and washed my hair. Have to 'keep up appearances' even just for me. (Did anyone watch the repeat of KUA the day before yesterday. It still makes me laugh love Patricia Routledge.

I do hope that Mel now HAS PICKED UP THOSE SCRIPTS.

Vera the Guava gin doesn't sound right does it? what a waste of good Gin.

I HAVE PICKED UP THE SCRIPTS THANK YOU. THANKS FOR ALL THE REMINDERS <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Gammon is in the pot and coming up to the boil. Just going to get some lunch now.

Oh has cleared all his papers off the table so I can give that a good clean and get the table ready for tomorrow. Christmas cloth and nice place mats.

Afternoon All,

Still dry here but looks very wintry and dark now.

Vera that is just what my nights are like with the security light at Mrs O's across the road! Her hubby leaves his headlights on and van engine running 5 minutes before he sets off and he parks smack opposite our main bedroom window now and works all kinds of hours as he's on call. He leaves at 3.00am some mornings. The security light can be on for 10 minutes or more as he has to load his tools in his van every time. It's not good is it! What a shame about the gin.

Glad you got your scrips Mel. Has the rest of what you baked gone now? :-D My gammon is done and cooling, but I still need to parboil the potatoes and sort the Turkey. OH has done the veg ready.

You were awake early AnnG, but it's good to make an effort as you say.I am wearing my Robin long sleeved T shirt for my zoom meeting this afternoon, but I think only 2 will be joining me as the other 2 have cried off. I usually slob around in old things unless I go out. Not sure what KUA is but I love Patricia Routledge. We enjoyed ACG&S last night! It never disappoints.

Keeping up appearances Ann

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Dec 2020 16:57

I'm watching that tonight Ann. I have saved it till oh is in bed.

Hoovered cleared the table and layed it ready for tomorrow with my Christmas cloth and place mats.

Cooded the gammon and made a huge stuffed potato with cheese and onion in it to go with the gammon and we shall have a few peas with that. So thats all out of the way. I have found a couple more pressies to wrap for oh so I am going to do that after I have shut the bantams up and make a coffee and mince pie.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 24 Dec 2020 17:24

I still enjoy KUP even though it is so predictable. It always makes me think of the mutual friend who introduced OH and me. Sadly she died young over 20 years ago but she was Hyacinth Bucket to a T.

The gin turned out better than I expected. I strained it through a very fine mesh sieve twice. I don’t have a lot, probably only about 8 or 9 fl. ozs but it’s more or less clear and a nice pink colour. No idea what it tastes like, probably disgusting. I’ll let you know what daughter and granddaughter think of it.

The granddaughter that is working in the care home texted me to thank me for the Christmas money I transferred to her account today. She told me she has been offered the Covid vaccine and has filled in her forms. She’s now waiting to hear where and when.

Our neighbour has just knocked with a big garland that was on our back gate. She found it across the courtyard. It’s really windy here now and still raining on and off.

I’ve taken my gammon out of the freezer but I’m not cooking it till Boxing Day. It’s turkey dinner with daughter tomorrow but Christmas night on we’ll be on our own so I thought we’d have it hot on Boxing Day and there’ll be plenty to have cold after.

I’m not sure I’ll be back now till Boxing Day so I will wish everyone the best Christmas that your own particular circumstances allow. HAPPY CHRISTMAS :-D <3

MillymollyAmanda Report 24 Dec 2020 19:00

Vera i hope you have a lovely time with your daughter and granddaughter and that the gin is drinkable , Happy Christmas <3 <3

I have cooked my turkey crowns ,par bolied the spuds and they are in the tin ready for the oven ,got the stuffing , pigs in blankets and a couple of dessets out of the freezer ,set the table and just sat down ,son should call for the bike later ,we can just pass it through the door .
I feel whacked now so i'm sitting down for a while and going to have a look on line at some ways i can fold my napkins in a fancy way the girls love it when they see them all folded nicely .

We have had a lot of sleety showers today and its been a lot colder .

I hope to be on tomorrow but it will be later in the day after family have gone home until then it will be very hectic so i hope everyone has a lovely day .

<3 Merry Christmas <3

Annx Report 24 Dec 2020 19:50

Enjoy your visit tomorrow Vera! Hope the gin is ok.

Ah yes, Keeping Up Appearances! I couldn't remember it earlier, She played the part brilliantly.

I have just about done now. The Turkey is in the tin and foiled and the potatoes parboiled and in the roasting dish, the pigs in blankets and stuffing balls are in their tin too. The cooking instructions for the Turkey crown suggest more of a steaming kind of method with liquid in the tin for the bulk of the cooking time, so I will try it this time to see how it turms out. It might be more moist.

I have sent you an EM!

I bet all the children are so excited now. I remember just wanting sleep to come so it would be Christmas morning when I woke up!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Dec 2020 21:32

Ann I have always done the water in the tin thing when cooking a turke or any other joint of meat or poultry.

Thanks for the email as I really missed that this year but now we have it and once again its wonderful. It must take ages to dress.
