But then, I'd get called a satan worshipper even though he's a Christian concept and I don't believe in him at all

Colin - you say about Islam being a relatively modern religion. I would say the same about Christianity, seeing as I am a practising pagan - the native spirituality of these isles and many others.

Doesn't mean I expect everyone to believe the same, have friends of many faiths, but I do kind of resent some opinions that keep cropping up in threads at the moment that are of a christian nature

Its not fair to rate any religion on its antiquity - there are many lots older than christianity, thats for sure.

I too dont like things being quoted as fact when they are purely opinion, but I would fight for the right of a person to say so...if that makes sense...?

Making me blush Laura!

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying my path is the SAME as 'years ago' - I don't think that's possible, and it doesn't make it any better. I just struggle with a lot of very christian threads like these (as people in general are finding out) when it's so different to my own path!

Just for interest and information...
in a nutshell

Jesus was born of the Jewish faith, but admonished the jewish sadducees and pharsees,(priests,) for the hard laws that they imposed upon their people,
which is why they put him to death....He then instituted the Christian faith...(Christian means to 'be Christ like' )
Jesus said two things were necassary ..
Love God. and Love your neighbour.
God said.....
Who are we (thats all of us) to judge another mans servant..
So I judge no-one , for whatever they believe or follow,
for you are my neighbours....
dont mean to preach just explain

But if we love and do not judge, why are there so many wars started by the christian faith>?

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 28 Mar 2008 02:09

Laura that is far too simplistic an argument.
And as far as the Bible is concerned - why do people take it so literally - any respected theologian gladly accepts that it is a "pictorial representation" that was written largely because the readers did not have the capacity to understand many "new" ideas - the bible is made up of a great number of writings that were brought together - the New Testament was based largely on Greek writings whereas the Old Testament is based on the Tanakh - Judaism - and was written mainly in Hebrew. The Bible, therefore, is not a book in the normal sense of the word but an anthology.

Hi all,
I will not disrespect anyone's belief or their interpitations or the way they were raised to understand "The Bible", regardless of what we learn from or many assorted religions, we all end up with the same result at the end, but I will ask, and remember, it is not to be disrepectfull.
who of you have read the "Bible" and I don't for it verses and scripture, but really read it and understood it, can you discribe it?

CMD Report 28 Mar 2008 11:33

With respect and without malice
Dear Dr Dude,
Yes I read the Bible, have studied it several times, with several different religions.....but I dont profess to be a know-all, or now it inside out, as each time I read it I learn something that reaches my heart better, However I obvouisly know it better than some who have got degrees, and make a lot of money out of it, or speak publicly on behalf of tousands as I can understand the concept of
being a Christian............... although I am not perfect of course...
but I believe that God sees into my heart, and is aware of my intentions

Dear Laura
I agree most Major 'religions' seem to be at the heart of war and turmoil...
an example..
If I wanted a new 'gadget' ie. washing machine, sterio, etc. I would shop around for something that would suit my needs, or desire would'nt I ?
Well it a bit like that when you choose to follow a desire to love God ( or to suit your spiritual needs)

In a nutshell (again, sorry)

thats why I looked to see what would satisfy my beliefs.and truely coform to Gods requirements
I DID NOT want to be part of a religion that took part in wars, in anyway, or false worship, or Idolatry,
Like I said, Christian means to be 'be Christ like' so all these religions that claim to be 'Christian' are not being truthful, are they? because they take part in the disgusting unGodly acts.
Thats why I do not want to be part of them,
The bible does emphasis that people should come to an acurate Knowledge of what it contains, that is done by continually studying it,
Jesus said. ''Know the truth and the truth will set you free''
The leaders of these world religions know they are not correctly preaching the truth, or they would be out of a job....and lose their powers.
I am always amazed at how many people will say they belong to such and such religion, but not make a stand, or are ignorant of what that relgion does in their name......if that make sense

OH

OH Report 28 Mar 2008 12:35

Coal miners daughter, lovely to here your view, as I pointed out very early, I will not go against what others believe, as you say, you are not perfect, neither am I and no one is, if we were, it would be a peaceful world would it not.

I have hope.

Shane.

The Holy Bible is not a story of the Jews so much
as Its all about how man deliberateley sinned
fror which he died and how the living God
imediateley put a plan into action for the salvation
of the innocent offspring------The seed of Abraham
was chosen because of Abrahams righteousness
The function of the Jews was to educate the
world on Gods purposes, They were to be an example to all the nations around them---Which
of course they were not----
When the Jews lived by Gods principles they
benifited, as under Soloman---The Kings of the
earth came to see how and why the Jews were
never troubled with inflation or fammine etc; From
these visits sprung up a lot of immitation religions
Jesus, was Gods means through whome salvation would come for mankind. Proverbs 8--
verses 22 onward Show that Jesus Christ was
the First creation the living God created--He
in his heavenly roll is known as Micheal as can be
seen in Daniel chapt 12-------
Put into the womb of the Jewish Virgin Mary
Psalms says refering to this---You kept me
screened off in the womb of my mother.------
Jesus fullfilled some 360 prophecies while on
earth;
He died a sacrificial death--A perfect man giving
his perfect life that all men from Adam would
recieve forgiveness. A perfect life corrosponding
to perfect Adam who threw his away--Gods
righteous law--Soul on behalf of Soul----------
Moses under inspiration from Holy spirit said
referring to Jesus--God will raise up one greater than
I--any one not obeying or believing on him will never see salvation.
So as our dear coal miners Daughter says----or
Implies we have to make our own choices, and
live by there consiquiences.
You might try reading Acts 15 from Verse 13
to the end of verse 18-------------

It just goes to show how religions can interpret their own bibles, be it the christian, muslim, hebrew or whatever, in their own way. Each one also claims there is only one god, etc etc etc.

Why is it that Christians and Muslims can have such radical interpretations compared with the other great religions in the world?

And why is it that they are so intolerant of each other
and the differing factions within their own?

And how can they preach peace, forgiveness and all that stuff one minute, then the next commit all sorts of atrocities in the name of their merciful god...?

Merlin, you're right - debating religion and politics is a non starter :-)

Ian,
you are so right, Why do world religions keep fighting, Not really pracistising what they preach, are they?
I can remember not being taught anything about politics at school, I knew nothing about what any party stood for untill I met my hubby, who is a font of Knowledge, and impartial to all matters, but gives a good explaination to things without being bias,

Colin, forgot to ask you how is your new job?
