I did nudge this thread to accompany another one, definately needs some certs ordering to clarify things, especially as these are direct line ancestors.

There is nothing obvious on the a2a site re the murder either, no record of an inquest, trial or mention of the name for the timeframe.

That's right (except that Jessie was born in 1916). That's why I'm puzzled about Tina's first post, when she said her gran was "formerly known as Pemberton".

so seems Sarah didnt remarry !! she was Sarah Pemberton and she married William Parkinson in 1898 .
Jessie Rosina was born Jessie Rosina Parkinson mmn Pemberton so she married in her birth surname of Parkinson

I've had a quick look in the Times Digital Archive, but I can't find anything about the murder.

Tina, where did the information in your first post come from? Does it say "formerly known as Pemberton" on your gran's marriage certificate?

MaryfromItaly Report 13 Jan 2008 16:53

Well done, Shirley, I only searched for the marriage from 1900.

I haven't found a Parkinson-Pembleton marriage.

There is this Parkinson-Pemberton marriage, but Wigan's a very long way from London, and anyway the wife isn't called Sarah:

Marriages Dec 1912 (97%)
PARKINSON Mary O / PEMBERTON Wigan 8c 223
PEMBERTON William / Parkinson Wigan 8c 223

I would hazard a guess that this is your gran's birth, but if so, it means that her mother's maiden name was Pembleton and her married name was Parkinson:

Births Mar 1916 (>99%)
Parkinson Jessie R / Pembleton Wandsworth 1d 871

Have you got the marriage cert for William to Sarah? Name and occupation of his father should (hopefully) be given.

His birth cert will give you both parents names (assuming his parents were married)

The only likely William Pemberton marriage to a Sarah on freebmd is in 1901 unless they married well away from the London area. Is the maiden name of Sarah really Pemberton or something else?

To allow people to help you, if that is what you wish, you must give us some idea of the years in which these events occurred.......plus the location.

Full names of the people involved would also be helpful.........

"murdered at the age of 3"......is that a typo? Do you mean she was 3 when he was miurdered?

If you are trying to trace back from him then you will need to find some details for him, ie his marriage, birth etc. Census returns either for him or his ancestors together with the relevant certs/baptisms etc.

If you want details about the murder itself then you can try the a2a website, local newspapers etc, they might also give clues for other family members.

Without knowing who, where and when it is difficult to say where you should look.
