Sarah, I presume that the reason for 2 entries is because they used the wrong name the first time.
I would imagine that whover took the information for the death of Bertie decided that the proper name of Albert should be used but in this case his name wasn't Albert, he was christened Bertie. It was probably corrected later.
I have a similar case in my family . My grandmother was Lizzie. She was christened Lizzie and was never Elizabeth but other researchers have automatically changed it to Elizabeth.

The 1920 U.S. census has William Gazey born 1880, Edith A., 1883, Edith 1901, William 1902 and Bernard 1904, all born England and living in St. Clair, Michigan.
I don't have a subscription so can't see the details but I'm sure someone would do a look-up.

How about these 2 deaths in California? Look at mother's maiden name.

Checked on Ancestry, there was a Bertie R. C. Gazey born Aston 2nd quarter 1912. Mother's maiden name Atheraych. (6d 546)

Ozi, I guess that one would be a daughter of Louisa Gazey who married Enoch Ames.

Take note of the line number that the name is on and check that line on the previous or next page to find out who they're going to join. Kind of confusing but the pages are never in the same order.

So I have William John in Aston definitely in 1899 and also in June 1902 (or at the least 9 months prior!) so odds are he is somewhere in Aston during the 1901 census.

I could order William Gazey b. 1902's certificate to see if I can get another address to search in 1901. It's an expensive hobby but these names become so important to you!

Margaret, where did you find that, that is great! I wonder why they went to America? Presumably W. J Gazey found work there?

Could this be significant?
In Nov. 1910 Edith Gazey, 28 and her children, Edith 11, William 7 and Bernard 6 emigrated to America to join her husband W. J. Gazey in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They were from Birmingham. Edith's nearest relative back home was her sister Mrs. Gregory, 33 Alderson Rd., (something?), Birmingham.

It's just so frustrating to have a piece of the jigsaw missing, I hate having gaps in their lives!
