I don't know how many of you have seen the posting on the Success page today called "I found out something fasinating today"?

I have extracted part of it.

....... Today i .......started to read a family ancestory file on our family on my dads side, he gave me this a couple of years ago ......... I can not belive what i found, ............ as i was nearing the end of the book what do i find! Its only our family ancestory tree dating back to 200AD ..........There are a few important people in the tree and some bad ones but to actually see where our family fits in is amazing. ......... I cant even begin to think what it was like living in 200AD let alone finding our tree dated back to then. the information in this file has been collected over the past 30 odd years by a member of the family.

Shouild she be told??????????????

It's probably that person who can't go back to BC on her GR tree.

She's obviously not going to prove it with documentation.

I spotted that one on General last night. I was quite tempted to say that now the fun starts as you try to document and prove it all!
I do know some one who has a tree going back to 1066 and beyond. I'm afraid I upset the person concerned because one of the offspring was conceived while his "father" was out of the country which I couldn't resist pointing out to them.

I can't help but be a little amused. It would be a great find but without proper documentation I would take it with a pinch of salt....someone could have just had a wonderfully wild imagination.

Do you think we should ask where they were being baptised back then?

If it is a tree on Ancestry, some of the trees on there are completely unbelievable as I have said before. After all, would your sister have had a baby in 1747?

lol... that's one old sister. immortality surely runs in the family though?

It seem to me that we can all say we are decended from Adam and Eve and be telling the truth but that is if indeed there was an Adam and Eve I may ask God tonight if we are related but I must have PROOF LOL

This really does get my goat.

We see it every day as people send in their tree files to be printed.

Carol and me gave up a long time ago at being amazed at how far people have gone back, one comment from a customer at a family history fair just about sums it all up, "It must be right, I got it off the internet". The record so far is a file that went back to 650 BC. I'd love to know how they researched that one.

The same goes for look up's, I do hope people take the information gained from a look up as guidance only and that they do get some proof before adding that look up into their database.

Summer Scribe: My sister cant have been as old as all that, since her father was only b in 1899 (correct) according to the people who have the (mis)information on ancestry. I have been tearing my hair out wondering how I can get them to remove these blatant errors from their trees, but unfortunately I cant afford to subscribe to Ancestry to get access to their addresses, apart from a couple of people, one of whom has removed them, the other says it is on his 'to do' list.

I shoudn't worry about people with trees on Ancestry, even when you try to contact them they don't answer, I must have emailed somone on there with some of my ancestors in common at least a dozen times, & left at least 3 comments on their tree & still no response.
I know they have been on there recently because it gives a date when they last updated it.
