"Your membership is an old membership. You have access to some items on our web site and not others. When your renewal is due we can upgrade you to the UK Deluxe which gives you access to everything"

Still haven't had a reply from Ancestry - why doesn't that surprise me?

I have UK & Ireland sub & not needed Irish records but I just gave it a try.

I put in a very Irish surname & I had a large list. Many of the databases were USA or Canada which I'm not able to access but I had about 6 which were Irish & I could access.

Its about 60 to 80 am not sure but i pay monthly about just under 10 pounds a month when i need it

This is one of the Irish databases I can access (Royal Irish Constabulary 1816-1921) - does it work for you, Margaret?

I must admit I haven't tried to use any Irish records as I haven't needed them. I don't really use Ancestry to the full, as I've only used it for census records and BMD's, and look-ups for other people in army pensions etc.

I've just tried to find some Irish records now and found that it is mainly just an index to microfilmed documents at Salt Lake City. This is what it says on the site:-

It looks like none of these records have been digitised so you would need to find what you are looking for in the index and then order the film from the LDS Family History Centres. At least that is what is sounds like to me.

It would appear that we have all 'signed up' to Ancestry U.K.?!.. Yet we have received different info., on what exactly U.K., means.

Kathleen and I both have U.K. & Ireland but I cannot access any of the Irish databases, Kathleen, can you?

I'm still waiting for a reply from Ancestry.

All it says in the "my account" section for me is "Current Subscriptions: Annual UK Membership". There's no explanation of what it includes, and no reference to Ireland.

If you want to see which databases are included in the UK membership, go to the home page of www.ancestry.co.uk and click on "See all databases".

To see which ones include Irish records, enter the word "Ireland" under "Database title". 92 databases come up - I've clicked on several at random, and I can access them all.

If you do the same with www.ancestry.com, the same 92 databases come up.

There isn't a great deal of useful stuff in those databases, though.

This is what my subscription says in "my account" section:-

Reading that, I would expect to be able to access any Ireland records that Ancestry hold without paying any extra to my subscription.

just looked at mine and it says annual UK membership. Logically then as Uk is Great Britain & Northern Ireland then it should cover N Ireland as well

You've subscribed to Ancestry U.K., what exactly does that give you access to?

Doesn't it specify when you subscribe exactly which databases the subscription covers?

I didn't check when I subscribed to ancestry.uk because I wasn't specifically interested in Ireland. I don't suppose the world subscription has many Irish records anyway, apart from emigration to the US.

Mary, I agree, I wouldn't be without Ancestry but it bothers me when they say one thing and do another.

Huia, the trees on Ancestry are mostly useless, but the subscription's worth its weight in gold for the censuses, despite the often poor transcriptions.

I don't think there's another site that offers all the censuses, is there?

Thankyou all for your replies, I've not been on line for a day or two so couldn't respond earlier.

Whatever the 'finer points', politically, geographically or historically of U.K., & Ireland, is another matter but my subscription to Ancestry definitely includes Ireland. Yet I'm unable to access any of the few Irish databases they have unless I pay extra.

I have e-mailed Ancestry - will let you know what they have to say.

I agree Heather - Ancestry is well worth the subs, and I don't use the trees either.

Margaret - I would email or phone Ancetry (there's a freephone number somewhere). I haven't had to use any Irish records but would expect to be able to access any that Ancestry has without paying extra.
