daughters of the above.found on the 1861 census.I cannot find out Martha,s maiden name she was supposedly born in Stornoway in scotland
Margaret maried Micheal Shannon on the 14th July 1879 in Liverpool they had 3 children Edward( born 1881 ), Patrick (born 1884 ) Martha ( born1887) 1891 census then margaret had my grandad micheal( born 1897 ) and his brother fredrick ( on his war grave memorial it has him as 23 and died in 1917 ) surname Oconnor i cannot find any records wat so ever for them anywere,

I have found her on the 1861 census her name is martha she was born abt 1821 in stornoway scotland, her daughter my gr8 gran is margaret dickson who married a man called michael shannon had 3 kids but he must of died after the 1891 census, as she had my grandad in 1895 and his name is Oconnor cannot find any B/D/M for them in that name ty

Do you have Margaret's birth cert? This would show her mother's maiden name.
The age gap between Bridget & Margaret is too big so this could have been a second marriage

Thats the thing clair, she was supposedly banished from home as she was pregnant and not married she wouldnt give the baby up for adoption so she left home wat happened then we dont know until the 1861 census this is Martha Dickson,s story, and i cannot find a birth in the library for Margaret or Bridget, i have margarets marriage cert to Micheal Shannon but no mothers name is on it grrrr such a long winding tale Clair lol ty for your help xxxx

ok i've had a brainwave (don't say a word claire)

if she was born in scotland and noone can find her untill 1861 is is posible (i've looked and looked and can't find a marriage)

that she married in scotland before going to liverpool

if this was the case you need someone to do a scottish look up on the 1851 census to see if she is there


it might explain why we can't find her

I have lost the plot here, whio do you need looking up on the Scottish 1851 and I will do it

It would appear that the only hope is Martha's birth cert.
Marie says that Margaret's mum was banished from the house for being pregnant & unmarried so could she have married in Ireland?

mellie your a godsend, the family was landed gentry if the family stories are true( maybe they gave her money to leave) its such a long story i should write a book really lol, some say she went to ireland others say lpool but edward was born in ireland so maybe they met and married there, i have been on scotlands people but without a maiden name for her i cant get anywere, and if Bridget wasnt Edwards there is a long time scale to search for wedding cert for them omg wat have i started lol i am going the lpool central library tomorrow so fingers crossed and thanks to clair and whisky soda mwah to you all xxxx
