Could anyone assist me with a 1901 census look-up on a set of twins. Eva Gertrude Henderson and Edgar Charles Henderson Both born March qtr 1892 in Ashton under Lyne but by 1901 they may well have been around the London / Surrey / Kent area. Many thanks Mike

I couldn't find either of them, Mike. I will keep looking. Susan

ErikaH Report 2 Aug 2007 23:08

No sign of them............. The birth registration district was Ashton Under Lyne............the actual place of birth will be anywhere within the district. Reg

Reggie , Janice and Susan Thankyou for trying. Unfortunately I only found out about their births an hour or so ago so I have no details at the moment about their parents. All I do know is that Eva married a William Smith in 1917 in Lambeth , South London. Regards Mike

I've just checked under Anderson and they aren't there either. Susan

Yes , I've already sent off online for her marriage and birth cert. It's just frustrating waiting when you're on a roll lol Mike

If you purchase Eva's birth cert, it will give you the name and occupation of her father.........if known. It will certainly identify her mother............. Reg

Actually one more thought occurs to me. On her marriage in 1917 to William Smith , Eva's surname is shown as Henderson or Leaphard. I wonder if it's possible that her mother remarried between the twins birth and the 1901 census to someone called Leaphard. Mike

And many thanks Susan for taking the time to check Anderson out. It's much appreciated. Regards Mike

You're welcome, Mike. I've also checked Leaphard with no success. I'll have a go at some variations. Susan

No luck, Mike. However, I found Eva Gertrude Leaphard born March 1/4 in 1892 Southwark, Surrey. Coincidence do you think? Couldn't find Edgar, are you sure they're twins? Susan

Yes that definitely sounds like the one Rose. I think the Lambeth connection in the marriage clinches it. Mike

No I think you have the right one there Susan. The twins thing only came up earlier this evening in another search. Originally I have only been looking for Eva and I think I've found her now thanks to all of you helping out. Many thanks Mike
