No blue blood...yet. But on my mother's side we have the Bronte sisters!

Peter

Peter Report 15 Jul 2003 01:06

No blue blood in my veins, but a few years ago I helped an American net friend trace her ancestry. Her mother, aged 95, was as sharp as a tack and we knew her ancestors (named TITUS) sailed to the US from England a few years after the Pilgrim Fathers. Checking back led to connections with the VAUX and MONTAGU families and further back still we came to Edward, Prince of England and finally HENRY 11 and Eleanor of Aquitaine. Work back from there and be amazed! I was! Peter

The Earl of Castlemaine is there somewhere and also Rev'd Daniel Rowlands from Llangeitho who has a commemorative statute somewhere in Wales. He was known as the crazy curate and was something to do with introducing Calvinism to Wales.

No, not yet (and I doubt if I will), but I did have a letter from one of my BOBY connections, who did an enormous amount of research before he died, saying he was waiting for confirmation that one HUGO DE BOBY was William the Conqueror's Huntsman! Trouble is, you get back to 1800 or so and it all become a bit tenuous, doesn't it? Can we ever really be SURE?

I think my folks were just servants and farm labourers to all these well-to-do people so can I claim some connection? Elisabeth

Be very suspicious of any lines that go back to noble families in the IGI. Many are extremely optimistic. MB

Stuart Report 6 Jul 2003 00:33

I unearthed a record of the Spillman line of my family that goes back as far as Sir William Espileman, first Lord of Brockenhurst. He was a nobleman and knight around the 1140s.
