Hello All, As a transcriber, I have sent an email to those that run FreeBMD asking them to be more explicate on their front page, ie what dates they are concentrating on, when their next update will be and (a bit cheeky I know) if they could put percentages of what is completed for each year, rather that the graphs. I hope that the next update (whenever that may be) will give you all some more information. Regards, Nesta

If no father is listed on the birth cert, might it be that the child is illegitimate, and that mother didn't want to name the father?

Janet, That was what I was hoping for, but when I received the cert there was no father on it! After all that time of searching as well. So this will be one of those mysteries that have, I'm afraid, gone with my gt granny to her grave. Kim

I've found loads of info from it, well done transcribers. From a visual check on the graphs it looks as if at the moment it covers about one third of births and deaths and half of marriages 1837-1903.

Can anyone tell me, on the graphs for some of the years they are shown as full, if that makes sense, making one assume that those years are complete. Are they, or could there perhaps be just a few pages still not in. I'm struggling to find a marriage. Sue.

Uncle's birth you found? If so, by ordering the certificate with the information you have, you will find the name of his father? (or did I misunderstand?) Happy hunting! Regards Janet. I have to say I am eternally grateful to the transcribers on FreeBMD. my Gt uncle had eluded us all for over 2 years, Southport had no record, records office, nothing, then a few months ago Hey Presto there he was on FreeBMD, Southport were baffled, so thanks you lot. Trouble was it was no help, no father on there anyway, but at least he was not a figment of my imagination. But how could this have happened? Kim

I must just add here that FreeBMD is NOT COMPLETE and is currently only covering up to about 1903. There are hundreds of transcribers typing out pages every day of the week to make the index available online and avaiable to all. It's not surprising that a lot of people get no results as the work is incomplete. To give you an idea - each page contains about 380 entries and will take on average about 3 hours to transcribe (if you're quick), so there's a long way to go yet. Of course if more people offered to help in the work, it would be completed quicker. Graham

click on vol page number on right hand side and you should see a list of names lucky for you annie was on there doesn't always work sometimes the bride is missing

found harry bradbeer marriage on free bmd rootsweb annie dent september 1/4 1903 bristol avon 6a 365 no death hope this is right one

just tried relly on ancestry and got bmd for a few give me dates and names i will do a search and see if i can help also need places

Didn't realise that. Must just be unlucky as couldnt find any before that either. Have exact dates of wedding. Need to find maiden name of bride. Is their any other way?

David I have heard that someone found an entry as late as 1984 but my latest is 1902. Think it all depends on how many transcribers there are working on the different areas. Maybe the graphs haven't been updated as originally they said between 1837 and 1904.

David Have found all but two of my mothers siblings, four of my fathers (including his) and marriages of both grandparents. This did take a little time but I found it better to do an "all counties" search rather than specify an area. The site is being constantly updated - approximately 28th of each month now so keep trying. Good hunting Kathleen
