Probably teaching gran to suck eggs, but I only just been given this tip and it gave me a whole new family lots more to research lovely anyway if you are lucky in your search and get a batch number try the search again just using last name and put fathers name first name will do and batch number and if someone else is also researching you may be lucky as I was and get a whole load of siblings, and take it from there.good luck sandra

Could you please explain that in words of one syllable, I must be a bit slow tonight. Where do you put the batch number in your search? Thanks.

Go to Hugh Wallis Batch Numbers on your search engine - it lists all the churches and gives batch numbers for cristenings, marriages and deaths. If its a christening and you have the first childs parents details and batch number, enter the surname only in the search and put parents FIRST names in the boxes provided. This will bring up all recorded siblings without having to check each record. Not my tip - added by Suzanne Paris and Helen Smith last May! Good Luck! Dierdre X

You can get the same from FamilySearch. Click on International Genealogical Index, if you find one of your names and you are lucky, it will give you a batch number. If you click on the number and type in the surname again, it will give you any family that were christened in the same church. Maggy

I assume if I find something is part of a batch, the details are reasonably reliable, allowing for transcription errors. I have learnt to take LDS entries with a pinch of salt.

yes I did mean IGI sorry my brain really was a lump of mush!! last night, perhaps I had better write everything down before I type, and yes you do have to try to check info elsewhere but I found a whole load of rellies I didnt know about entering them all was what drained the brain to hand mode. slightly more awake sandra

I have tried looking on here for a couple of rellies and not had any luck is it a partial service like freebmd and what % of uk records covered by this website?

I thought this might be just what I was needing, but I want to trace relatives in Banham, Norfolk. Went to Norfolk - no Banham. The Reg. Dist. is Guiltcross - not there either. So now what do I do? HELP!!!! Jan.

Sandra great tip Thank you! It seems that it works prior to 1850 or so the more recent records on my trees anyway, dont have batch numbers, but very soon I will be trying to fathom out that great great great issue and thsi will help enormously. Thanx again.

good morning campers, just realised that I forgot another part to the search. when you have found if lucky extrat relatives if you then go to the ancesteral file and put in these names if someone else has reaearched you will gain whole families. I was very lucky with my husbands Lambert family found his g grandad had lots of siblings it gave me his father plus lots of family and his father plus family hope this makes sense only just awake!. I must be honest and these tips came to me from a site called geneology in hertfordshire well worth a look got a very good question and answer part. well better go and do some work luv sandra
