This is what it contained. I think it might have appeared blank depending on your mail settings- Thank you for your continued support and for helping to make GenesConnected the UK's largest family tree web site! We are committed to providing you with a valuable experience. Look out for exciting features and a new look in the coming weeks. Success stories We now have over 6.5 million names on the site. Members are finding relatives not just in the UK, but all around the world! Just look at the most recent success stories - Amazing!! "I registered on GenesConnected to try and find my grandfather who I hadn't seen for thirty years. Imagine my surprise when, after just two days, I received a message from him." "I was only seven when I left the UK, so for 50 years I've only known my immediate family. Joining GenesConnected was a way of linking up with my UK relatives again. I've now discovered a large extended family - in the last week alone, I've heard from a cousin and a niece." We are always delighted to hear your stories so please click here to send yours. We're looking for photos! Please send us any photos* that were taken of family members before 1960. For those we select to appear on the site, we'd like to offer you a History of Surname scroll in association with Ancestors the professional genealogists. Ancestors also offers exquisite personalised family history gifts. Click here to find out more - www.friendsreunited.co.uk/scrolls.htm We will be selecting 20 photos which may appear on the site and each winner will receive a framed scroll similar the one pictured here. Click here to email your photos -photosATgenesconnectedDOTcom Top Tip for tracing your family - Courtesy of our resident genealogist, Anthony Adolph. You may not always be able to find birth, marriage and death records in the general registration indexes on the internet. Most of the websites, such as FreeBMD, are not complete (and nor do they claim to be). So if you don't find what you're looking for on the web, it is definitely worth checking the original index at the Family Record Centre in London. Remember if you want to get the full benefits of membership: access to message boards, photo upload or make contacts, you'll need to become a member. It still costs only £5, click here to subscribe. Q&A sessions Anthony has now completed three online live Q&A sessions which have proved to be a great success. He is due to give his fourth session at 9pm on Tuesday 2nd September. Hope you can join us. As always, we wish you success in discovering your family history. Best Regards Steve

Never had a Newsletter, how often do they come out? Kathleen

Helen Report 25 Aug 2003 15:45

If you click on 'your details' on the left it gives you the option of receiving the newsletter or not. Perhaps you said no to this when you joined? You can change the option any time.

Angela Thanks for posting the newsletter content. I'm puzzled by your comment about mail settings however since I successfully received the previous newsletter. Paul (Cheltenham)

I didn't receive a newsletter, and I just checked that I had ticked that I wanted to receive them. I suppose if it was blank it doesn't matter that I missed it. Jan.

What mail program are those of you with the blank newsletter using? Last time the newsletters were sent out in batches so as not to choke up the mail servers. I wouldn't worry if your copy hasn't arrived yet. Crista

Paul

Paul Report 25 Aug 2003 20:14

Christa I normally use H o t m a i l directly and the email is blank when I do this. Since you have posed the question, I have accessed my H o t m a i l account via Outlook Express and the full email content is then visible. I tried adjusting the 'display internet images' on H o t m a i l to automatic, but this did not seem to resolve the original problem with using H o t m a i l directly. Paul (Cheltenham)

Crista

Crista Report 25 Aug 2003 21:13

Paul, Is the message in your Hotmail Junk Mail folder? Most images in e-mail located in your Junk Mail folder will be filtered, regardless of your Display Internet Images setting. Crista

Paul Report 25 Aug 2003 22:24

Christa, The message originally went into my junk mail folder. When I reviewed the messages, I transferred it to my inbox and added the sender to my safe list. I then viewed it from my inbox but it was blank regardless of my display internet images setting. Paul (Cheltenham)

Crista Report 26 Aug 2003 00:51

Paul, Guess what? I got mine and it was blank too. Of course I have H o tmail. I will try and figure this out. In the meantime, if you want to see the message, select forward or reply and you will see the message. Crista

Paul

Paul Report 26 Aug 2003 12:09

Christa, Thanks for your continued interest and helpful suggestions. Your tip about using forward or reply works for me, but shows only the basic text. If I use Outlook Express, all the original formatting and graphics suddenly appear. The only thing I can think of that has changed since I successfully received the previous newsletter is that H o t m a i l have introduced the facility to filter out images from emails. As previously mentioned however, manipulating the related settings does not seem to make a difference in this case even though the newsletter is now in my inbox. I would be interested to know if your further investigations shed any more light on the matter. Paul (Cheltenham)
