The thought occurs that anyone living near enough to visit their local Record Office might be willing to check out entries in the parish registers for those who live too far away to do it themselves. I can get to the Essex Record Office in Colchester and would be happy to do quick checks for people while I was there doing my own research. Obviously, no-one could expect long searches on their behalf, but a quick confirmation of b, m or d should be possible. I hope others out there would also be willing to put their name on the list - I could do with some help in the Maidstone area! What do you think? Vanda

Shirley Report 27 Oct 2003 08:21

I live near Medway Archives and Local Studies Centre. It holds material from the entire Medway area and adjacent locations. Census returns including a name index to the 1841 to 1891 returns are available. (Chatham, Rochester and Strood) Local newspapers from 1830. Naval lists from 1814. I have not used the centre myself as most of my family are from London but would be willing to help someone else. Shirley

I havent progressed to parish records yet, but i am off to the library next week (after the half term madness, lol) and would be happy to have a look for anything that might help. Yvette

I live near Warwick Records Office. I can't go often, so if it is urgent I can't help. But if you are willing to wait then email any look ups & I'll do my best. Sarah.

I am off to the Surrey History centre Tuesday 28th, I will be looking the electoral registers for 1939 and 1945. Have taken time off work as it is half term and decided it is time to venture out into the wide genealogy world beyond the computer. michele in haslemere

I go to Miidlesborough Archives, Northallerton records office, and Durham records office but not every week and would need things written concisely as my little brain becomes confused. Also Darlington local studies, but can i say as Christmas is looming I will be cutting my visits down. Regards Ann, Darlington

Lincolnshire I got to the library in Lincoln every so often where they hold all the censuses for the area. Id quite happily do lookups there but work and my son mean i cant go everyweek so it may take a few weeks. Can also do lookups in the Waddington graveyards if anyone needs them. This is such a good idea.... Demelza

Glad to find that you seem to think it's a good idea and that so many of you are willing to do favours. I haven't had time to log on since I put the message on the board and now find that there is a Records Office board - will have to wait til the weekend before I can have a look though. All the best - Vanda
